The Walter A. Wood Project
Submitted by Kevin O’Malley
The Walter A. Wood Mowing and Reaping Machine Company operated in Hoosick Falls from 1853-1920. In 1890 it employed 2,000 men and turned out about 90,000 machines per year. Many of those were shipped all over the world. Walter A Wood built Hoosick Falls.

The Walter A Wood Project is now under way. The idea is to take Walter A.Wood Tractor Seats and transform them into benches for village of Hoosick Falls parks and streets. The fabrication is being done by The Pasapane Walker Studio. The seats are reproductions with funding for the prototype from Hoosick Rising. After the first bench is complete fundraising and grant opportunities will begin. Each bench will cost between $800 and $1000 and is custom made. We see this as not only a place to sit, but as a marketing opportunity for the community. With benches painted in the colors of John Deere, Farmall, Allis Chalmers or perhaps by local artists.
