Gone Fishin’

Doug La Rocque

No matter how old you are, from Opie of Mayberry RFD right on up to our citizens, every now and then you just have to put up the “Gone Fishin” sign. That is exactly what happened recently at The Center for Fishing (er Nursing) and Rehabilitation in Hoosick Falls.

Activities Department employee Craig Sawyer loves to fish, and it was a favorite pastime for many of the Center’s residents as well. So Mr. Sawyer thought, if they cannot go fishing anymore, let’s bring the fishing to them. With the help of Marketing Coordinator

Marilyn Leese says she got a beauty on “Fishin” Day at the Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation. Photos provided.

Kelly Slingerland, they cast a line into the pond of ideas, and pulled out a keeper. Craig went fishing and caught numerous fish of varying sizes and species.

They polled area business for tanks to store the fish in, and Tractor Supply of Bennington took the bait, donating as many tanks as they needed. Mr. Sawyer supplied the needed equipment, and with the help of the Center’s staff, the residents spent two hours reeling in their catch and maybe a few joyful memories as well. On this day in Hoosick Falls, the limit on fish and happiness, was waived.
