Forest Fruit
Allegheny or Common Blackberry (Rubus allegheniensis) is found in our area, is fruiting now (red color turns darker), and affects the conditions of the understory of eastern forests.
Where deer reduce the abundance of the blackberry, the hay-scented fern dominates and reduces the growth of tree seedlings.

The blackberries will spring up after storms when trees fall causing more sun to reach the forest floor, and will decline when trees grow reducing sunlight.
