Water Tank Still Off-Line
The Petersburgh Water District has continued for the past week to use the water tanker parked just below the water tank as its temporary water tank. It is being filled three times a day using the Water District’s regular wells, and it is hooked up to the distribution system through a nearby fire hydrant.
Petersburgh Town Supervisor Dennis Smith said contractors are coming Wednesday and Thursday September 16 and 17 to seal the inlet and outlet pipes to the water tank, which are believed to have cracks in them. Smith said the gasket which seals the tank to its concrete base also looks questionable in a few places (he said it is “kind of bubbled up”), and he hopes to do something to make sure that seal is secure before declaring the tank ready for use and filling it back up. Smith said he hopes to fill the tank and get it back on line by the middle of next week, perhaps by September 23 or 24.
