Tornado Touches Down In Schaghticoke, Skips Over Hoosick
A strong storm front passed over northern Rensselaer County on Saturday evening, August 29, spawning what the National Weather Service confirmed was an F-1 tornado. The result was heavy damage to a home in Schaghticoke, snapped off power poles and minor damage to the roof of the Hoosick Valley High School. According to law enforcement, there was fortunately only one minor injury.
The same tornado also touched down and damaged several structures in Stillwater.
The tornadic air circulation was tracked a few minutes later, passing over the town of Hoosick, but never touched down and soon dissipated.
The strong winds and rain associated with the front that produced the tornado resulted in several area power outages.
