New Public Nature Preserve
The Rensselaer Land Trust (RLT) invites the public to walk the two miles of woodland trails, look up to the treetops to see the great blue heron rookery, and enjoy the seasonal views along the Hoosic River. Featherweald Preserve is a protected area of 44-acres owned, created, and maintained by RLT and generous volunteers.
Over the last three months there has been a tremendous amount of volunteer activity culminating in making this impressive property available to the public. Over 40 volunteers contributed a total of more than 500 hours to make this happen and the land trust is very grateful for all the help.
Featherweald Nature Preserve was donated to RLT in 2018 by Ms. Lisa Lindquist, Ms. Ilse Godfrey, and Mr. Craig Johnson in memory of their parents Kenneth and Nancy Johnson. The property was donated to RLT in order to protect biodiversity on the property and to honor Kenneth and Nancy Johnson’s long-time enjoyment of the property and commitment to sharing its wonders.
