Family Fun at Windy Hill Orchard – East

by Amy Modesti

Looking for something fun to do with family and friends now that fall is here? Head on over to Castleton, to take part in the festivities at Windy Hill Orchard-East.

Every Saturday and Sunday, through October 18, visitors can take part in plenty of fall activities that Windy Hill has to offer; apple picking, hay rides through the orchard, walking in the corn maze, or you can purchase crafts or a fine variety of foods from the many local vendors. Pumpkins, fresh squeezed cider, and fine baked goods are also available outdoors and at the general store.

The “Matt Mirabile Band” performs under the tent last Saturday at Windy Hill Orchard East. This local blues band features Matt Mirabile (guitar), Alison Jacobs (vocals), Jeff Prescott (drums/vocals), and Steve Aldi (bass). Photo by Amy Modesti.

A fall festival is not complete without having live entertainment. Previous performers who took part in the festival in September include “Skeeter Creek,” “Brian Kane Acoustic Sessions,” “Johnny Rabb’s Big Band,” and “The Tradition.”

October at the orchard brings in new entertainment from the likes of the “Matt Mirabile Band”, “Wild Adriatic” on October 10, noon-3 pm, “Tranka and Messick” (October 11, noon-2 pm), and “Whiskey Highway” (October 17 noon-3 pm). Not only will “Whiskey Highway” close out the entertainment, a classic car show will also be taking place day from 8 am to 2 pm.

Saturday, October 2 saw entertainment featuring some tasty blues-rock from the “Matt Mirabile Band.” The ensemble, featuring Steve Aldi, Allison Jacobs, Matt Mirabile and Jeff Prescott, performed two outstanding sets of blues-rock for visitors and fans who came out on a beautiful afternoon to show them their full support. With Jacobs’ soulful voice and Mirabile’s sizzling guitar solos in their blues covers and originals, it’s no wonder why this band is one of the top area blues groups in the Capital Region.

Family Fun at Windy Hill Orchard-East is free and open to the public. The wearing of facial masks and social distancing is mandatory while attending their events. Like Windy Hill Orchard-East on Facebook to keep updated on their events and product offerings.

This festival is part of the family fall festivities in Rensselaer County.
