HFCS Suspends In-Person Classes For One Day After COVID-19 Report
by Doug La Rocque
On Monday, September 28, the Hoosick Falls Central School District (HFCS) was informed a student had tested positive for COVID-19, and as per state and county guidelines, immediately notified the Rensselaer County Health Department. The Department contacted family members and close contacts of this individual, and advised they quarantine as a precaution.
HFCS decided to suspend all in-person learning for the following day, switching to a complete remote learning platform for two days. Wednesday is a designated remote learning day for all students.

According to a letter from District Superintendent Patrick Dailey, the District undertook a “thorough disinfection” of any potentially impacted areas following New York State Department of Health and Center for Disease Control guidelines. As of press time, the District was still slated to reopen its doors to students on Thursday, October 1. The letter further states that anyone with questions and/or who needs to report a COVID-19 related health issue should contact the District’s COVID-19 Resource Person at (COVIDreporting@hoosickfallscsd.org).
The New York State COVID-19 Dashboard shows no other area schools (Berlin, Tamarac, New Lebanon, Maple Hill, Averill Park and Hoosick Valley) reporting any COVID-19 positive tests for in-school students. Averill Park does report that 6 students who have chosen fully remote learning have tested positive for the virus.
The Eastwick Press will monitor the COVID-19 situation in these school districts, and report any changes on our Facebook page and our website.
