A Walk Around Town
Three Petersburgh women had cause to celebrate on a recent beautiful, crisp September morning. They had completed their goal of walking on every Road in the town of Petersburgh. 222 miles of them! Mary Lou Walters, Nan Lance, and Roberta Glanz had set this goal back in the spring of this year. They often met early in the morning at the Petersburgh Memorial Hall and drove two cars to a drop off spot at the bottom of a hilly road. They then drove to the other end of the road, left the second car there, and walked (an average of two miles daily) back to the first car. “We tried to walk down the hills as some of the up hills are really long and steep,” offered Mary Lou Walters.

Nan Lance added, “What a beautiful town we live in! It was a wonderful way to get in shape and get to know our town better.” This was Nan Lance’s first summer of “walking the town” but Roberta Glanz had done it the last three years and Mary Lou Walters had done it for 8 years!
The three have matching bright yellow “walk around town” t-shirts with a map of the town on them, and a map at home as well. They color in each road daily as it gets done. “Now our town maps are all filled in,” said Roberta Glanz. “We accomplished it before the snow!”
If anyone is interested doing the “walk around town” next year, maps are available at the Town Clerk’s office. If should happen to see any other ladies out for another stroll, ask them about the bear.
