Planning Board Approved Auto Repair Shop
by Denise Wright
After soldiering through some technical difficulties with the live stream for its Friday, October 2 meeting, the Schodack Planning Board reviewed and approved a plan for A & K Auto Repair at 1573 Columbia Turnpike. Amel Hadzimuratovic, who also owns Bella’s Auto Sales on State Street in Schenectady and A & K Automotive on Troy Road in East Greenbush, presented his plans for a repair shop that will work on all types of vehicles, excluding body work.
Mr. Hadzimuratovic had originally planned to move his auto sales lot to the Schodack site, because he cannot operate a repair shop there. The planners advise he could not do that because cars sold at the Schodack location must be of a new sales dealership in nature. He decided to keep the Schodack location as a “one-stop” repair shop and might consider a dealership like Subaru or Chevrolet in the future.
The Planing Board also reviewed conditions for the approval, which include no more than 15 vehicles on site at one time, only one 55-gallon waste oil drum on site and no outside storage of car parts or tires. Following that discussion the board granted the special use permit for 18 months, provided the specified conditions are adhered too.
