Mrs. Holcomb Hurts Her Head

Thursday, January 18, 1849: This forenoon while I and my wife was at brother Samuel Beers on a visit I walked down to Alvy Hicks to collect money for my son Geo P. for grafting. He could not pay yet and promised to leave the money to Samuel Beers house this afternoon. I and my wife came home from brother Beers, we called to Stephen Van Rensselaer Jolls to warm for it is quite cold.
Friday: This morning Daniel Gardner came and offered 35 cents per pound for my wool, all but 15 fleeces he offered 30 cents. I did ask him for the price per pound 37½ cents. Today Squ Strait came and took dinner with us and then I walked down with him to old widow Lydia Landers and he took her testimony concerning Marcellus Ross age. She says said Ross told her he was most 24 years of age and she knew it to be so other ways. I paid said Strait one dollar.
Saturday: Today I took my cutter and carried Sarah to Pittsfield, we took tea to brother F. Jay Wylie’s. We called in to Squ Gold office and he questioned Sarah concerning the substance of what her testimony if called concerning her sister’s law suit and I sold three bushel turnips to the Berkshire for 75 cts and on the way we called to E. C. Hughes, I gave them half a bushel apples, we got home at seven this evening. We called twice at Pool Hill post office but nothing.
Sunday: I and my wife and Geo P. and Charlotte E. went to the Chapel to meeting, Elder Haven preached. We rode in our two horse sleigh and my wife fell or pitched out onto her head, getting into the sleigh when we started to come home, it hurt her considerably. On this evening my children went to meeting at the lecture room, it is calculated a Excitement a getting up an Excitement for pointment is out for every evening for a week to hold meetings.
Wednesday: I went twice and carried four hemlock logs to E. Goodrich saw mill for Simeon Wylie Jr and he agrees to help butcher two pigs in exchange.
Thursday: This forenoon we butchered two pigs and Simeon Wylie helped in the way of changing works. I had paid him and then Geo P. and Simeon Wylie went and got little fish for fish bait. Today quite a thaw and rain. This morning the Barkers factory burned in Hancock.
