Marginal Sori
This Marginal Wood Fern (Dryopteris marginalis) was found last week in the Petersburgh woods before the snow fell.

Its common name “marginal” is for its sori, pictured here, which are located on the margins or edges of the leaflets. Sori are the tiny thin cases containing spores. This evergreen fern grows in the eastern United States in damp, rocky and woody areas. Trix refuses to post a photo of snow yet.
