Sunday Kicks Off New Extended Victorian Stroll

Cornell Cooperative Extension, along with the Capital District YMCA, is excited to be a part of The Victorian Stroll, a tradition that takes place on the first Sunday in December in Troy.

On December 6 from 11 am until 2 pm, Rensselaer County 4-H, along with the Capital District YMCA-Troy Branch and ESNY Program will be hosting a Winter Fair for youth in the CCE parking lot at 61 State Street in Troy.

Two 4-H clubs, including the Green Earthlings and Clover Kids and Critters, will be handing out hands-on activities in a bag. The Capital District YMCA will be distributing grab and go, take home STEM kits – to explore science, technology, engineering and mathematics! And Brenna from Cornell Cooperative Extension in Albany ESNY Program is preparing bags to provide cooking and nutrition activities.

This year’s 38th Annual version of The Victorian Stroll is poised to look and feel differently from years past and create a festive atmosphere to encourage supporting local shops and restaurants in downtown Troy throughout the holiday season.

The Chamber and City of Troy are focusing on creating an ongoing festive atmosphere in downtown Troy, including decorated storefronts, piped-in holiday music, a ‘Stroll Season Bingo’ card for patrons to complete throughout the month of December, and more. In an effort to mitigate crowds and adhere to COVID-19 safety guidelines, this year’s Troy Victorian Stroll will feature significantly fewer entertainers and street performers than usual.

“We recognize that the Victorian Stroll is an integral part of many families’ holiday traditions in the Capital Region and beyond,” said Chamber President Kate Manley. “The 2020 Stroll Season will place an emphasis on helping our local small businesses end a difficult year on a high note, and we look forward to returning to a more familiar Stroll in 2021.”

COVID-19 protocols will be in place.
