All Aboard To Light Up The New Year

Community Members,

As we all know, the year 2020 has been one with many challenges.

At Berlin Elementary School, we are appreciative of the many things that we are able to continue to experience with our students. We enjoy seeing them each day and having the opportunity to work with them.

However, we can’t ignore the fact that our students, along with many community members, are missing out on so many activities that they cherish. For that reason, we hope to create a New Year’s Event that will bring cheer to our students and all of our community members.

As if the winter wasn’t dark enough, as we enter 2021, the pall of COVID-19 continues to hang over us all. Two teachers at the Berlin Elementary School would like to change this. They have sent The Eastwick Press an open letter, which is printed below.

We are asking you, a valued community member, to help with this event. On the night of January 23 from 5 – 7 pm, students will be invited to drive through the towns in our district to see a light display to welcome the New Year. We are asking that local businesses and community members set up lights at their places of business. A lit sign of the New Year or one that represents your business would be a great addition to our event! All businesses that participate will be listed on a map for families to visit.

We hope that this event brings joy to our students and the entire community in a time with so many challenges. We also strive to see our community come together to support each other and celebrate the New Year.

We hope that you will join us in making this event possible. If you choose to join us, would you consider having a small item to hand out to the children who attend (piece of gum, lollipop, pencil, bookmark, etc.) This will make their night even brighter (and encourage families to stop and support your business!) In order to plan appropriately, we kindly ask that you let us know via text or email if you are able to participate by January 8, 2021. If you have any questions, please feel free to contact us.
