Soul Fire Farm Awarded $50,000 Grant
by Doug La Rocque
Blue Shield of Northeastern New York’s Blue Fund has announced $150,000 in grants to support three major health-based projects across the Capital Region, as the COVID-19 pandemic continues to have a profound impact on non-profit organizations. One of those to receive a grant was Grafton’s Soul Fire Farm Institute, located off NYS Route 2 in the eastern portion of the town.

Leah Penniman is one of the founders of Soul Fire Farms, and says they are delighted to have received the grant. She says the purpose of Soul Fire Farm “is to support equality and access in the 518 Food System. The money will be used to construct a new program center that will provide sustainable farm training and education for the next generation of farmers and enhance agricultural use in the region.” Soul Fire Farm is also involved in distributing healthy food to the vulnerable populations of the Capital Region.
