COVID-19 Is For Real

This is to all the folks who think the COVID-19 virus is a hoax or for some other reason do not want to wear masks or get the vaccine. Does your reasoning protect you from getting a cold? No, and it won’t keep you from getting COVID-19. If you choose not to wear a mask or get the COVID vaccine that is your choice. This is a free country. You have the right to put your health and the health of those around you at risk. But does a good citizen do that?

My husband’s family just lost a wonderful beloved saint because of COVID-19: Kimmy Killeen was a wonderful daughter, wife, mother and grandmother, nurse and friend. She loved Jesus and told her family not to be sad for her. She was going home to heaven to be with those who had gone before her. She listed them one by one. She was looking forward to being with them. She was looking forward to being healed.

Kim had a neurological condition where benign tumors grow in her brain and along her nerves. She needed periodic surgeries to remove the tumors when they got too big. She went into Albany Medical Center for brain surgery and there caught COVID-19. Her surgery was a success but the COVID-19 destroyed her lungs.

Mark, her husband, who had promised her that he would not let her die in the hospital, sent this email: “Kim wouldn’t have survived the ride home. But, with a lot of support and coordination the nurses made calls and pulled some strings. We were able to get our kids, Pasty and Kathy (Kim’s mom and sister) to meet outside in a hospital courtyard garden. We were all able to hug her, kiss her, cry, support each other and say goodbye. We stayed with her until she took her last breath. It was heartbreaking but kind of a special send off for my earthly angel to go to heaven and be with God! Many thanks, especially to the two most compassionate nurses, Carly and Kim and for Kim’s neurosurgeon, Dr. Boulous, who came out to be with our family at the end.”

Folks I beg you to wear a mask. I beg you to get the vaccine, I ask you to cooperate with the contact tracers who may call you. I ask that you volunteer for the Medical Reserve Corp (518-270-2633 Sscecchitano@rensco.com) to help in whatever way you can. Everyone can help in some small way.

I ask that you do this in honor of Kimmy.
