Parking Concerns Highlight Town Board Meeting
by Denise Wright
Concerns were raised about people parking on Sharon Lane, for access to the Albany Hudson Electric Rail Trail in East Schodack. Frequently, there are many cars parked alongside the road. This has residents concerned about safety and traffic flow. The state did install a small parking pull-off area for a maximum of three cars there with a sign requesting people to park at the official trailhead at Nassau Lake and County Route 7, which is only a five-minute drive from Sharon Lane.

The Trailhead lot contains room for 12 cars and has benches overlooking the lake. Still, there has been an ongoing problem with numerous cars parking up Sharon Lane and across the street at the National Grid substation. Supervisor David Harris wants to remind trail users that if additional no parking signs are needed on Sharon Lane, “those who do park along the road or on people’s private property may be subject to having their vehicles towed.” Harris said that they will keep working with the Highway Superintendent on this problem but asks trail users to “be respectful to the homes that border the trail and try to find alternate areas to park.”
The Board also approved a January 14, 7 pm organizational meeting.
