As was first reported by The Eastwick Press last week, Ed Bly officially stepped down as Rensselaer County Undersheriff on December 31, with Sheriff Pat Russo formally swearing in Paul Higgitt Jr. as his replacement that morning. At the time, Sheriff Russo thanked Mr. Bly for his years of service both as Chief of Corrections and Undersheriff, stating Mr, Bly “was a driving force in the Sheriff’s Office, achieving the success and professional reputation the office has gained. Ed was the best administrator I have worked with in my 40 plus year law enforcement career.”

In choosing Mr. Higgitt as Mr. Bly’s replacement, Sheriff Russo noted he served the county as a Correctional Lieutenant for eight years before moving on to a career with Homeland Security. He is also an Army Veteran, retiring as a Sergeant Major. Sheriff Russo says “I have all the confidence in Paul Higgitt and have no doubt he will be able to continue with the dedication and professionalism of his predecessor.
