Delgado Meets With County Officials

Submitted by Rep. Delgado’s Office

U.S. Representative Antonio Delgado met with Rensselaer County Executive Steve McLaughlin, Public Health Director Mary Fran Wachunas, Director of Operations Rich Chris, and Director, Bureau of Central Services Jim Gordon on Monday, January 25, to discuss the critical need for federal relief for local governments and vaccine distribution.

“The federal government must work closely with and support folks on the ground who are managing the COVID-19 pandemic,” said Rep. Antonio Delgado. “Our counties, towns and villages desperately need federal relief to maintain essential services, distribute COVID-19 vaccines and rebuild rural communities.

I thank Rensselaer County Executive Steve McLaughlin and local leaders for walking me through the needs of the community as we seek to collectively meet the challenges presented by COVID-19. I will keep working to pass my bipartisan legislation, the Direct Support for Communities Act, to deliver federal funding directly to local governments.”

“We face many challenges as we battle COVID-19, and it is important for those serving the public on the federal, state, county and local levels to work together,” said Rensselaer County Executive Steve McLaughlin. “I appreciate Congressman Delgado taking time to visit today and discuss issues facing the residents we serve in Rensselaer County as we respond to the outbreak. We had a productive discussion about federal aid money to help communities and businesses rebuild, accelerating the delivery of vaccines, assistance needed for property owners and other important issues. I look forward to working with the Congressman and others during the coming months of 2021.”
