This Bird Was Counted
Last weekend, Grafton Lakes State Park participated in the Great Backyard Bird Count, which is a weekend when ordinary folks report sightings of wild birds. Researchers at Audubon, Cornell and Birds Canada use the data in their research.

This White-breasted Nuthatch (Sitta carolinensis) was seen scooting down an ash tree looking for something to eat. It eats mostly insects in summer, and seeds in winter and will place acorns or nuts in the tree trunk crevices to hammer them open with its beak.
