Reimagining Berlin Free Town Library

The Berlin Free Town Library (BFTL) is crafting a Long Range Plan to guide its operations into the future and better serve the community. Established as a lending library by the Berlin Chess Club in 1894, BFTL was granted a permanent charter from the state Board of Regents in 1941. Since that time, the library has been operating as an association library governed by community volunteers who make up its 10 member Board of Trustees.

One of the many events held at the Berlin Free Town Library is the annual pie sale. Eastwick Press file photo.

Through the years, BFTL has embraced evolving technologies, moving from the analog age to digital, from hardcover books to downloads and installing WiFi. The library has adapted to meet the needs of its patrons. Now it’s time to reimagine what the library will offer into the future and we invite the community to share feedback and suggestions as we formulate our road map forward.

It’s easy to get involved in reimagining your library and you can do so in several ways. First, we ask all community members to fill out the online survey. We want to hear from you whether you use the library or not. Your comments can help us improve how we serve our community. The survey can be found at: https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/HCQSQ8P.  Simply log on and fill in the form with your responses to the questions, it only takes a few minutes.

A second way to be involved is to be part of a focus group which will meet once, for about 90 minutes, in an online forum (date and time to be announced) hosted by the Upper Hudson Library System (UHLS). The information gathered by the focus group will be used by the Trustees to help shape the Long Range Plan and it gives individuals the chance to share honest and open thoughts about the future of the library. If you would like to be a member of the focus group, please call the library at 518-658-2231 and leave your contact information. We will be in touch!

The anonymous online survey will be available through March 31, so please log on and take a few minutes to help with the important work of reimagining your library. As an incentive, if you complete the survey and give us your contact info, we will enter you in a drawing to win a 10.2” Apple iPad 8th Gen. with Wi-Fi 32 GB.
