Edward C. Griswold

Stephentown – Edward C. Griswold (Carter), 96, passed away peacefully at home in Edgewater, FL, on February 17, 2021. Carter was predeceased by his wife, Barbara (Wagner) Griswold of 75 Years. He was one of four children born to the late Harry Sr. and Anne Griswold on their family farm on Madden Road in Stephentown, NY. He is predeceased by his brother Harry (Marion) Griswold Jr and Eleanor Baldwin. He is survived by his three children, Elaine (late Richard) Leffler of FL, Douglas (Sandra) Griswold of Stephentown, and Robert (late Joy) Griswold of Petersburgh, his sister, Rosemarie Zukas of FL and grandchildren, several great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. 

While raising his family in Stephentown, Carter and his wife owned and operated a gas station and snack bar on Route 22 and expanded by building the Valley View Motel. Carter worked at G.E. in Pittsfield, MA as a tool and die maker, before going into business building custom homes in Williamstown, MA. Afterwards, he worked for Samson Hydraulics in New Lebanon, NY and also owned and operated his own excavating company before retiring to FL.

Carter was a life member of the Stephentown Volunteer Fire Dept. serving as a Fire Lieutenant. He also was elected as Stephentown Tax Collector for many years and served on the Berlin Central School Board of Education. 

No services will be held at this time.
