Town Board Ends Negotiations On Tri-Town Ambulance
by Doug La Rocque
Toward the end of the workshop/special meeting on Thursday evening, March 18, Councilman Frank Lewandusky produced a resolution that called for the town to cease all negotiations with the Grafton Rescue Squad over the proposed daytime paid service for Grafton, Petersburgh and Berlin. The resolution was approved by a 3 to 2 vote, with council members Lewandusky, Beaudry and Deschaine voting yes, and Supervisor Ingrid Gundrum and Councilman Wagar providing the no votes.
At a community meeting on the Tri-Town ambulance proposal earlier this month, the Rescue Squad’s Board of Directors announced it was not ready at this time to pursue the idea.
Senior Center Negotiations
Rensselaer County has informed the town that it is indeed interested in continuing its lease for the Everett Wagar Senior Center for another three years, with a three percent increase in the lease amount. The provisions are: the Center is exclusively for use by the county from 8 am to 4 pm, Monday through Friday and any use outside these hours follow COVID-19 protocols.
Heading Home
For several months, the Town Board has been using the Senior Center for its monthly and special meetings because it offered more space for in person gatherings. Supervisor Gundrum says that beginning with its April meeting it will return to the Town Hall.
The board is also looking into internet upgrades for the town hall, with the provision there be security procedures built in to protect the Town Court records from being accessed by unauthorized individuals.
