Sgt. Wright Wraps Up 25-years With RCSD

Shortly before 8 am on Thursday, March 18, Nassau’s Sergeant John W. Knight walked out of the Public Safety Building in Troy to the cheers of family, friends and colleagues, as he wrapped up a 25-year career as a Corrections Officer for the Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Department.

Sergeant Knight began his career in corrections on February 9, 1996. Over that span of time he was promoted to the title of Corporal in 2001 and ultimately promoted to Sergeant in 2007. Sergeant Knight has been assigned to every shift throughout his career, acting as a positive role model and has spent the last five years of his career assigned to the A-line shift, where he was the secondary Watch Commander.

Sergeant Knight stands in the doorway of the PSB after receiving a commendation from County Executive Steve McLaughlin for his years of service to the County. During his career Sergeant Knight, who has always been respectful, polite and professional has responded to multiple calls for help where he assisted his fellow officers and supervisors. Always performing his duties to the best of his abilities, Sergeant Knight has also assisted in working with the inmate population, sometimes one-on-one acting as a role model in faith.

Sheriff Pat Russo offered his thanks, and those of his fellow officers to Sergeant Knight for his loyalty, professional service and expertise, which together are a testament to a career in public service well spent, and all would like to wish him well long into his retirement.
