The Very First Stephentown Lighted Christmas Parade

December 2, 2021 By Eastwick Press

It Truly Was a Christmas Spectacular

by Doug La Rocque with contributions from the SVFD

It might have been a bit chilly and snowy, but isn’t that what Christmas is supposed to feel like? Besides, the spirit of the season and the camaraderie experienced by those at the very First Stephentown Lighted Christmas Parade on Saturday, September 27 was certainly enough to warm the cockles of one’s heart.

It was estimated that as many as 500 people lined the parade route and gathered in Veteran’s Park for the parade from the Fire Hall and subsequent tree lighting.

Co-sponsored by the Stephentown Volunteer Fire Department, the Stephentown Seniors and Stephentown Veterans, the SVFD says there were 44 entries in all, including fire apparatus from nearby Averill Park/Sand Lake, Berlin, New Lebanon,
Hancock, Petersburgh and Best Luther (East Greenbush). Many local businesses  and organizations also took part. The SVFD listed them as Kinderhook Creek Farm, Gardner’s Ice Cream and Coffee Shop, Zwack, Inc., Stephentown Memorial Library and Trail Riders, Berlin Central School District and Fat Body Customs. Many local business sponsored and decorated trees at Veterans Park as well. Thanks go out to Mike Denue who provided the trees.

The Toy Drive, held in conjunction with the parade and tree lighting, and co-sponsored by Family Dollar, was also a huge success.

Much more on the parade can be viewed on the Stephentown Fire Department Facebook page.
