New Lebanon Town Council Meeting
by Chris Tergliafera
After compiling the 208 responses to the recent community survey about how the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds should be used, the top five areas of interest are: local businesses, monitoring Town water, health and wellness, the community center and the Rail Trail. There will be a special meeting on Tuesday, July 26, at 6 pm to not only discuss the results of the survey in a more in-depth manner, but also to discuss how to use the unallocated fund balance and excess sales tax revenue.
Cool Ravines CEA
The resolution to adopt a negative resolution declaring and designating the Cool Ravines Critical Environmental Area (CEA) was approved.
Main Street Revitalization
The Council is looking to apply for a two phase grant that will help with business revitalization, however they will require written verification that New Lebanon qualifies for the grant before moving forward with the application, which has a fee of $3,500.
Extension for Bids
No bids were received for the splash pad and skatepark slab projects in Shatford Park, however Darcy Construction has expressed interest in the projects. The company asked for, and was granted, an extension on the original bid deadline. Bids will now be due by Friday, June 24, at 2 pm.
Historic Railroad Station
The property containing the historic railroad station has been donated to the Corkscrew Rail Trail. The Council passed a resolution requesting the County forgive penalties and interest on the back taxes for the property, allowing for those funds to instead be used for improvements. With many options as to what can be done to the property, a Historic Railroad Depot Committee will be formed, with letters of interest due by Friday, July 8, at 4 pm.
Weekly Enrollment
This year’s Summer Youth Program (SYP) will allow for weekly enrollment, with discretion being given to the SYP Director as to how many weekly enrollments will be allowed. Weekly enrollments will be on a first come, first served basis, and can be refused based on overall enrollment and staffing levels.
