The Friends of the Bennington Battlefield and the Brigade of the American Revolution will be hosting a reenactment of the Battle of Bennington on the weekend of August 13 and 14 at the Bennington Battlefield State Historic Site in the Town of Hoosick. All public parking will be clearly marked, near the junction of Caretaker and Cottrell Roads. Limited public parking for Saturday’s events will be available at the top of Hessian Hill.
Visitors are encouraged to arrive early. The program is free and open to the public. Transportation will be offered on August 13 between the parking area and dragoon redoubt. Some walking will be required to observe the action on August 14th. The schedule of events has been changed and is as follows:
Saturday, August 13
Camps (off Caretaker Road) open to the public – 10 am
Reenactors March to Walloomsac – 11 am
Talk by Dr. Robert Selig, “Revolutionary War Military Burials” – 1:30 pm, top of Hessian Hill
Storming of the Dragoon Breastwork – 3 pm, top of Hessian Hill
Repulse of Breymann’s Relief force – 7 pm, field near reenactor camps
Sunday, August 14
Camps open to public – 10 am
Stark’s attack over the Walloomsac – 11 am, Bridge over the Walloomsac, Caretaker Road
Battle for the Tory Fort – 2 pm, field above Cottrell Road
Troops break camps – around 3:30 pm
Following these weekend events, a commemoration ceremony will be held at the battlefield on Tuesday, August 16 at 7 pm to mark the anniversary of the battle.
