Enough of a Tax Break Already

September 9, 2022 By Eastwick Press

by Doug La Rocque
That was the unanimous sentiment expressed by those in attendance at a Rensselaer County Industrial Development Agency (IDA), public hearing held Tuesday morning, September 6, at the Brunswick Town Hall. The subject of the hearing was a request by CVE North America for funding as well as both sales tax and mortgage tax exemptions, something the Town of Brunswick vehemently opposed. In a letter to the IDA, Brunswick Town Supervisor Phil Herrington pointed out the solar development firm (which has an approved project yet to be constructed [Read more…] about Enough of a Tax Break Already

203rd Anniversary of The Schaghticoke Fair

September 9, 2022 By Eastwick Press

Story by Amy Modesti

Fair season has come and gone, and school’s begun. The last hurrah of the unofficial start to autumn that everyone enjoys is The Schaghticoke Fair.

This third oldest fair in New York state ended Labor Day and throughout its run came lots of great fair fun. From watching live entertainment from area bands such as Soul Sky, Rattail Jimmy, Vinnie Michaels Duo to country superstar Tracy Bird, feeding emus and small birds at the Adirondack Mobile Aviary, eating delicious fair food, amusement rides, to tractor pulls and demolition derby, there was something for everyone to enjoy.

A returning favorite, the Royal Hanneford Circus, provided all the clowns, chair balancing, juggling, dog tricks, and acrobats in their entertaining show. Filling in the rest of the fair were the other fair staples: 4-H club shows and exhibitions, animal displays, arts and crafts, welding demonstrations given by Adam Coonradt at the agriculture museum, and much more.

The 203rd Schaghticoke Fair ran from August 31 through September 5, 2022. Thank you Schaghticoke Fair for bringing the fair to fairadise into Rensselaer County once again. [Read more…] about 203rd Anniversary of The Schaghticoke Fair

Hunting & Trapping Education Courses

September 9, 2022 By Eastwick Press

Training in safe handling of firearms and hunting ethics is required before purchasing a hunting license.

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) today reminded all new hunters and trappers planning to go afield this season that they must first complete a mandatory hunter, bowhunter, or trapper education course before obtaining the appropriate sporting license or hunting privilege. In-person, instructor-led hunter education courses are being offered throughout New York during September and October. Bowhunter education, trapper education, and waterfowl hunter education courses are also available, and all in-person courses are free and offer hands-on experience.

With hunting licenses now on sale, first-time hunters and trappers are encouraged to sign up for certification courses soon to reserve a spot, as these courses can fill quickly. Each year, thousands of New Yorkers take DEC’s hunter and trapper education courses. DEC’s online registration system makes it easy to view a list of all available courses. To locate a hunter or trapper education course, visit DEC’s website or contact a local DEC office for assistance.
