I-90 Corridor Plan Reviewed – Schodack

The Rensselaer County Industry Development Agency (IDA) held a public scoping meeting on February 15 at the Schodack Town Hall. All Schodack officials and public members could ask questions and comment on the draft generic environmental impact statement (GEIS) created for approximately 6,000 acres along the I-90 Corridor between exits 11 and 12 on Route 9.

Hoosick Falls School Board Meeting

Budget Season Begins

At the February 17 regular meeting of the Hoosick Falls Central School District Board of Education, the first draft of the 2022-2023 budget was presented. The proposed budget would see a spending increase of $1,133,950, up 4.7% over last year. Numerous things factor into this number, such as increases in staff and support service, state and federal mandates, contractual expenses and more. NL-B Swimmers Finish Strong

Top 8 finishes were achieved and school records broken for the New Lebanon-Berlin Varsity Swim Team who competed in NYS Sectionals this past weekend at Shenendehowa High School. Junior Alex Sotek, Sophomore Alison Slater and eighth grader Lance Schroder competed in individual events while Carol Kirsimagi, Riley Schwartz and Jordan Sotek rounded out the relay teams. Alex Sotek led the way with an outstanding meet finishing with two school records and two top 8 finishes, which hasn’t been done by a New Lebanon-Berlin swimmer in over 14 years. Alex finished 7th in the 100 Butterfly with a time of 58.78 and 5th place in the 100 Backstroke with a time of 1:01.50. Robert C. Tibbetts – Obituary

Stephentown – Robert C. Tibbetts, 84, passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, February 17, 2022.

Born in Brockton, MA on May 31, 1937, Bob was the son of the late Webster David Tibbetts and Martha Bruce Winter Tibbetts.

He married Dorothy Ruth Peirce at the East Taunton Congregational Church on February 15, 1964. Their first date was a plane ride on his single engine airplane; they just celebrated their 58th wedding anniversary. Missing Person

The Rensselaer County Sheriff’s Office and the Washington County Sheriff’s Office are currently investigating a missing person out of the Town of White Creek. 

Morgan Bates, 20, was last seen in Eagle Bridge, Washington County, with a possible sighting in the Town of Petersburgh, Rensselaer County, around 2 am on February 22. 

Morgan has not been heard from since, and we are seeking the public’s help regarding any information which may lead investigators to her whereabouts. Anyone with information is urged to contact the GIVE tip line at 1-800-448-3847 or crimetip@troopers.ny.gov. 

Morgan is described as a white female, 5’3, 135 lbs, black hair with four shark bite piercings in her bottom lip. She was last seen wearing black sneakers, a blue or grey New Holland hoodie, black joggers and hot pink fingernails.

Harold W. Jones Jr. – Obituary

Petersburgh – Harold W. Jones, Jr., 91, passed away peacefully on February 20th, 2022 at the Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation in Hoosick Falls. Born July 21st, 1930 on the family farm in Berlin, NY, he was the son of the late Harold W. Jones, Sr. and Nora A. (Brown) Jones. 

Harold and Eva F. Hurley married on February 10th, 1951 at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Bennington, VT. They were married for 66 years when Eva passed on October 4, 2017. He attended Berlin Schools. He worked for W.J. Cowee, Ben Mont Papers, and Eddington Chevrolet-Cadillac in Bennington. In 1963, he and Eva went into business, operating H.W. Jones Garage in Petersburgh together for 40 years. He was a gifted mechanic and an honest man, going the extra mile to help his customers.  [Read more…] about Harold W. Jones Jr. – Obituary

Gladys M. Goodermote – Obituary

Berlin – Gladys M. Goodermote, 87, passed away peacefully on February 21, 2022. She was born in Hoosick Falls on May 10, 1934 to Raymond Brownell and Ethel LeBarron Brownell. She graduated from Hoosick Falls High School in 1952 and went to work for a local business.

She married her husband, Stanton M. Goodermote, on November 27, 1954 and they were married for 67 years and lived in Berlin. She was a devoted housewife and mother. Matthew J. Waldron – Obituary

SVHC Cuts Back On COVID-19 Vaccination Hours

Change Comes as the Number of Requests Declines

Starting on Monday, February 21, Southwestern Vermont Health Care is reducing the hours that COVID-19 vaccination and booster shots will be available. Vaccines will be available 1 to 5 pm Monday through Wednesday and 8 am to noon on Thursday at the Express Care Center at 120 Hospital Drive in Bennington. 

They will also be offered from 8 am to noon Friday and Saturday at the COVID-19 Resource Center on the campus of the former Southern Vermont College at 981 Mansion Drive in Bennington.

No appointment is needed, although those under 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. The services are free, though insurance companies may be billed for the testing.
