November 20, 2021 By Eastwick Press

Supervisor, Former Council Candidate Spar

by Doug La Rocque

The Brunswick Town Council generally opens their meetings with a public comment session, and while on occasion some important points are raised, it tends to be a bit mundane. Not so at the Thursday, November 11 gathering. Former Town Council candidate Jennifer Mann stepped up to the speaker’s podium to ask the Town to test wells for PFOA and PFOS contamination. Ms. Mann had offered to help Town residents have their wells tested for the two suspected carcinogens at a cost of $350 per test. She indicated that so far she has personally collected 20 water samples and sent them to a lab. She said one showed trace amounts of [Read more…] about Contention Over PFOA Testing in Brunswick

Berlin Library Changes are Coming

November 19, 2021 By Eastwick Press

Submitted by Berlin Free Town Library

Today libraries are faced with the possibility of becoming obsolete if they remain an institution that is only about the borrowing and lending of books. Libraries across the country and the globe are changing their models to stay relevant; they are diversifying. They view themselves as important community centers, but not just a place to borrow a book, conduct research or use a computer.

If there is one thing we have taken away from living through a pandemic, it’s that societies cannot stay healthy when they remain socially isolated. Libraries everywhere are becoming a place where people can gather, in person or remotely, over like interests, participating in activities and programs [Read more…] about Berlin Library Changes are Coming

Veterans Dinner a Huge Success in Petersburgh

November 19, 2021 By Eastwick Press

Submitted by Mary Lou Walters

The Veterans Day Dinner at the Petersburgh Veterans Memorial Center was a huge success. The music by Karen Webster, Leslie Green, Martha VonSchilligen and David McNally was amazing. The presentation done by Michael Holms was of a professional quality and very touching. He honored our Vietnam Veterans to a degree that had not been seen by many before. Folks think he should go on the road with it.

Despite the cost of food, folks did not skimp on what they brought, either in quality or quantity. There was a huge variety of high quality entrees and desserts. It felt wonderful to come together as a scarred community for the healing and comfort that took place that evening.
