Local Kids Attend Eastern States Youth To Youth Conference

TRACs (Together Reducing Alcohol and drugs in our CommunitieS) proudly sent six dynamic youth from our area to the Eastern States Youth to Youth Conference in Rhode Island on July 28-31. The registration for the Y2Y Conference was funded by the Drug Free Mentoring Grant that TRACs was awarded from Rensselaer County Mental Health’s Federal Drug Free Communities Grant.

BCS Sports Practice Begins

Berlin Central H.S. will begin Fall Sports practices on Monday August 22 at the following times:
• Boys JV and Varsity Soccer 8:30 to 10:30 am.
• Girls JV and Varsity Soccer – Fitness Training 9 to 11 am – this practice is optional. Soccer practice 5 to 7 pm – this practice is mandatory.
• Girls JV and Varsity Volleyball 5:30 to 7:30 pm.
• Varsity Cross Country 8 to 9:30 am and 6 to 7:30 pm.
• Girls Modified and Boys Modified Soccer will start the first day of School on September 7, 2:30 to 4 pm. Kids can sign up for the 4:15 bus.

Book Sale At The Grafton Library

The Grafton Community Library is holding a book sale on Saturday, August 27, from 8 am until 1 pm. Stock up on books for the remaining dog days of summer at bargain prices. Hardcover books are one dollar, and paperbacks are fifty cents.  Remaining VHS tapes are free.

Columbia County Fair Cooking Contest Heats Up

With the Columbia County Fair just around the corner, area cooks should start opening their recipe card files, pulling out their cookbooks and searching the internet for “Best of” dishes.  The 5th Annual Morton A. Ginsberg Memorial Cooking Contest is about to begin.
On Monday, September 5, at 12:30 pm, anyone interested can bring their star quality dish, fully cooked, to the North Gate of the Fair and enter in the competition for cash prizes ranging from $100 to $300 in the Youth division and $200 to $500 among adult participants.
