A Mishap At The Beacon Power Frequency Flywheel Plant

Two weeks after Beacon Power celebrated the completion of their frequency regulation plant in Stephentown, a serious mishap has occurred that has people in town wondering. As Kevin Sweener was driving down Route 22 from Berlin on Wednesday evening, July 27, he saw a cloud of smoke coming from the direction of the Beacon Power plant. Berlin BOE Has Another Nightmare

An email exchange forwarded to the Eastwick Press provides an alarming look at the Berlin Central School Board’s actions in their attempt to hire a new Superintendent of Schools for the District. The emails contained statements not normally heard at meetings between Board Members Alan Webster, Jr., Bev Stewart, Board President Gina Goodermote and Board Vice President Jim Willis.

Beware The Emerald Ash Borers

How did all those purple box kites get caught up in the trees? Well actually they are not box kites but Purple Prism Traps. The Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) has been placing them in ash trees in eastern Rensselaer County and elsewhere as part of their early detection and response effort in combatting the infestation of the emerald ash borer. Wounded Vet Takes Other Wounded Vets To Ball Games

U.S. Army Sgt. Kevin Miller is a man on a mission. He is co-founder of Warriors in the Bronx. On Friday, July 15, Miller was outside Weebs Fish Fry selling T-shirts and collecting donations for his project. On June 25 he rented a 12 passenger van and drove 10 wounded veterans to Yankee Stadium. The vets were given a tour of the stadium, the museum and Monument Park. Grafton’s Ingraham To Compete In World Rimfire And Air Rifle Benchrest Competition

Rick Ingraham of Grafton has been involved in Berlin school sports for years. He has coached basketball, softball, wrestling and cross country. He has given them all up except cross country. “As I get closer to retirement age I wanted to find something for me,” he said. He has been a fisherman, archer and rifleman all his life. “I’m a competitive person. I tried 10 meter Olympic style air rifle basics for two to three months, but my eyes aren’t good enough for off hand and peep sights.” That’s when he settled on Light Varmint and Heavy Varmint air rifle benchrest shooting. Petersburgh Town Board Action – Lightning Strikes

At the July 20 Petersburgh Town Board meeting, moved from Monday July 18, Highway Superintendent Ray Harrison said lightning hit the Town Garage and fried the alarm system. He has called an alarm specialist to come look at the system to see how extensive the damage is. Peter Schaaphok said the Town might want to review the whole system, which is connected to all the municipal buildings, as he believes there are problems with the system in other municipal buildings.  Bill Seel agreed, saying he thought the alarm system had been disconnected at the Veterans Hall during the renovations.
