Linda McGuire Retiring From St. Mary’s Academy

Tears flowed freely at St. Mary’s Academy on Friday, June 17, when students, staff and parents honored third grade teacher Linda McGuire, who is retiring after 38 years. Some of the fifth grade students who led the morning prayer service recognizing their beloved teacher found it hard to read their essays without some meltdown. Growing A Farmers’ Market

Since early June, something has been growing in Berlin. Something town resident Trish Gerstel said, “Has the potential to bring many positive changes to the valley.”
Earlier this year Gerstel formed Our Valley Community Farmers’ Market (OVCFM), which she now participates in as vendor and Market Manager. Hoosick Grange News – July

Hoosick Grange met on July 13. It was Dairy Princess Night, and David Schmidt was in charge of the program. David introduced Rensselaer County Dairy Princess, Miss Marilyn Lamb. Marilyn told us she grew up on a farm in Johnsonville. She will be a senior at Hoosic Valley High School this fall. She has been a 4-H member for 10 years. Stephentown Library Events

• Free Daily Lunch & Snack for Kids – We are pleased to have been chosen as a feeding site through this federally funded lunch program. We will be serving a healthy bag lunch each weekday from 12 to 1 pm in the community room. From 3 to 3:30 pm we will serve a snack. There is no charge and no income or residency requirement. All children under age 18 are encouraged to take advantage of this program. Children under 12 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian. The program will run until August 19, Monday through Friday.

Berlin Republican Wood Raffle Winner

After the Fourth of July Parade in Berlin, the Berlin Republican Committee drew the winner of their Raffle of a truckload of log length firewood. The winner was Rebecca Bowen of Berlin. She does not burn firewood but has given the load to her brother.
We would like to thank everyone who participated in the raffle and especially Jim Winn who donated the wood and Bob Anders who provided the trucking.

Hoosick Democrat Party To Host Giffy’s Chicken BBQ

The Town of Hoosick Democratic party will be hosting its annual chicken barbecue provided by Giffy’s BBQ from 5 to 8 pm at The Polish Hall on Thursday, July 28. Everyone is invited to come and enjoy some delicious slow cooked chicken with baked potato, coleslaw, dessert and cold beverages. Tickets are on sale at Thorpe’s Pharmacy from Jim Monahan, or you can call Kevin O’Malley at 686-9460,  Marilyn Douglas at 686-9707, Maggie Casey at 686-7367, Pat Hayes at 205-5104 or Bob Ryan at 686-4857. Tickets will also be sold at the door. Tickets cost $12.
