BCS Needs Some School Spirit

At the start of the Tuesday meeting of the Berlin Central School District School Board a delightful short film was screened. “All of our stuff is broken!” voiced a young student in it from the Berlin Elementary School. She was talking about all their playground stuff, but she could have easily been speaking in regard to the building itself. She would probably be surprised though just how broken it could possibly be. The School Spirit Committee had put the film together as part of their campaign to get new playground equipment. Berlin Town Board Action, Part Two – The Rest Of The Story

The Berlin Town Board held its April regular meeting on April 14 in the Berlin Fire House. Overflow attendance caused the move from the Town Hall because it only has an official capacity of 50. Aside from the important decision the Board took to disapprove the contract to purchase the Berlin Lumber property for use as a municipal center, plenty of less controversial business took place. Petersburgh Hires Civil Engineer To Help Write Road Specs

At its monthly meeting on April 25 the Petersburgh Planning Board met with a Civil Engineer named Clark Wilkinson whom it would like to consult about road specifications for the Town.
The Planning Board is rewriting its regulations this year and would like to set standards for construction of new roads and driveways. Grafton Planning Board Action – Graftonondack Approved

The Grafton Planning Board met on Monday, April 18, with only one item on its agenda, the site plan review of Graftonondack Outfitters and Boat Livery. The required public hearing on the project was held at 6:45 before the regular meeting.

New Lebanon Mittnight Special Meeting

A special meeting of the New Lebanon Town Board was heard last Monday to discuss yet once again the zoning plight of Robert Mittnight Jr.
Mittnight Jr. has had zoning problems in New Lebanon of one sort or another now for almost nine years. Recently a New York State Supreme Court Judge ruled that Mittnight Jr. had until April 30 to remove building and other materials from his property. If he didn’t he would be looking at jail time.

Bridge Work In Hoosick Falls

For the past two weeks the underside of the River Street bridge has been shrouded to prevent debris from falling into the Hoosic River. NYS DOT has been busy removing lead paint from the steel on the underside of the bridge and repainting it. (Bea Peterson photo)

Letter To The Editor – Berlin Lumber – A Reflection

To the Editor:
I offer my apologies to the voters of the Town of Berlin.
How naive I was to think that after the majority of the voters on the 19th of July 2010 voted to purchase the Berlin Lumber property that the Board would not follow their decision.
Instead my fellow Board members banded together to follow their own vision of what the Town should be. This was driven by their desire to prevent the Highway Superintendent from having a better facility from which to provide service to the townspeople.

Letter To The Editor – An Amazing Outpouring Of Assistance

Letter to the editor:
Every so often a situation arises that allows us to see first hand the acts of selfless dedication that so many individuals in our communities and region make on a regular basis that have an impact on all our lives. The recent propane tanker fire in Hoosick is one such incident where we were all witness to an amazing outpouring of assistance from across the entire County and beyond to help ensure a positive outcome.
