Kevin McGuire In ‘Broadway And Beyond’ Concert
Kevin McGuire, the founding Artistic Director of The Theatre Company at Hubbard Hall (TCHH), returns to the area in “Broadway and Beyond,” a one night only concert on Saturday, April 23, at 8 pm at Hubbard Hall. McGuire will be joined by The Richard Cherry Trio, including accompanist Richard Cherry, Richard LaPlante on drums and Tim Patrick on bass.
McGuire, who is directing TCHH’s spring production of Stephen Sondheim’s Merrily We Roll Along (May 12 – June 4), will perform classic Broadway show tunes as well as contemporary pop selections.
Prior to establishing The Theatre Company at Hubbard Hall as one of the region’s finest and most acclaimed theatre troupes, McGuire enjoyed a celebrated career in musical theater, playing lead roles on Broadway, and in national and international tours of Les Miserables, The Phantom of the Opera, Jane Eyre and The Secret Garden.

Wednesday, June 27, 1855: I walked over to Mr. Pease to find out where his horses got in my meadow on the Rodgers farm. He told me the horses got out of his meadow into mine and he would take care of his horses. On the way home I called into my Rodgers house that Patrick Rafferty lives in. Today a woman called by the name of Nigh and sold us a bushel basket and took her pay in potatoes. This forenoon John F. got our sheep home to shear from Lathum’s land. John F. rode to Lebanon with Geo P. wife and bargained with Henry Hull for our butter at 20 cts til fall. John F. walked home and Geo P. wife went in pursuit of a hired girl. This afternoon Alexander Ostrander and Dwight Jones sheared sheep for us, and John F. sheared five of them himself. This evening John F. carried H. Hull 83 pounds of butter and strawberries. Today Patrick and E. Hatch dug under the barn.

Fire In Church Street Pizzeria

The Hoosick Falls Fire Department responded to a call at 59 Church Street at 11:50 Thursday night, April 7. “When we arrived there was a working fire downstairs near the pizza oven,” said Hoosick Falls Fire Chief Robert Bornt. The fire had also worked its way into the wall. “We had it knocked down in the first 45 minutes,” he said. The building is old. It has no fire stops, some false ceilings and walls covering walls.

Stephentown In Statewide Volunteer Firefighter Recruitment Drive

Thanks to volunteers, residents of towns like Stephentown get fire protection and emergency services at an amazing bargain rate. And without the volunteers there is no way the Town could afford it. Bill Jennings, Treasurer of the Stephentown Volunteer Fire Department and Secretary of the Board of Fire Commissioners, made this clear at an Open House tour of the Fire Station on Saturday.

Hoosick Town Board Action – The Armory Issue

One of the final issues at the Monday, April 11, Town Board meeting was a discussion about the National Guard closing the Armory and the possible relocation of Town Offices. Supervisor Cipperly said he had a copy of what it cost to run the Armory in 2010. The total cost was $55,549. He noted that some repairs had been made to the furnace in the past and added that one of the churches in town put in a new furnace at a cost of $100,000. New Lebanon’s Town Hall Saga

At the April 11 meeting of the New Lebanon Town Board, the latest installment of the Tale of the New Lebanon Town Hall came to light.
New Lebanon already has a Town Hall of course. But some people are not satisfied with it. This is understandable. It’s an old building and along the way some people seemed to have ignored it, and now it’s slowly falling apart and needs big money to fix it.

Stephentown Motocross Application Deemed Incomplete

Continuing their deliberations on a proposal to construct a Motocross sports park at a field off of Webster Hill Road, the Stephentown Zoning Board has determined that Howard Commander’s application for a zoning variance is still not complete. The Board’s engineering consultant, Michael Bianchino of Clough Harbour Associates (CHA) summarized the situation to date at their meeting on Thursday, April 7. Fire On Bovie Hill

The Hoosick Fire Department responded to a call at the Walter Baker farm on Bovie Hill Road on Monday, April 11, at 6:26 pm. “It was an electrical fire in a bedroom,” said Hoosick Fire Chief Bill Rifenburgh. He said a fire extinguisher and water were used to try to put out the fire, but it was too smoky. When the residents’ attempts didn’t work, they closed the bedroom door and waited for the Fire Department to arrive. Two events, kept the fire damage to a minimum, said Rifenburgh. First and importantly they kept the bedroom door closed, containing the fire and second, the Hoosick firefighters were at the fire house for one of their monthly drills, so they were able to respond very quickly.
