Stella also graduated from Paterson State Teachers College, Patterson, NJ, and attended the Moody Bible Institute in Chicago, IL. Stella was known for her love of cats.

At the Hoosick Town Board meeting on Monday, March 14, Town Supervisor Keith Cipperly announced that the National Guard housed in the Armory on Church Street is moving out of the building. The Supervisor was told the guardsmen that report in Hoosick will now report to Gloversville and Leeds.

Berlin Board Delays Action On Berlin Lumber Purchase

Thursday night, March 10, was supposed to be a big moment for the Town of Berlin, when the Town Board would vote to proceed with the purchase of the Berlin Lumber property for use as a municipal center or not. But nothing happened. Board Member Richard von Schilgen was sick and absent from the meeting; Board Member Jim Saunders was also absent. This left Board Members Sheila Hewitt and Becky Giumarra and Town Supervisor Rob Jaeger to form a quorum. Hewitt and Giumarra decided that there should not be a vote at this meeting to accept the Laberge Group report, which would mean that the contingencies on the Berlin Lumber purchase have been met. Acceptance would have moved the purchase process forward, but Hewitt and Giumarra wanted the input and votes of the two missing Board members.

Hoosick Falls Celebrates St. Patrick

When you schedule a parade for March in the northeast it’s a hit or miss deal. Some years there will be sunny skies and temperatures in the 50s. Other years you are not so lucky. Hoosick Falls has been holding St. Patrick’s Day parades for the last 20 years. The parade has gone on in snow and rain and good weather. This year was not bad… not great… but not bad. Plugged Aqueduct Causes Washout Of Shaker Road

“I have explained it to everybody,” said New Lebanon Highway Superintendent Jeff Winestock, “One of these days we are going to lose Shaker Road.” And last Sunday night Winestock’s dark prediction came true. After a heavy rainfall, which combined with snow-melt runoff, a portion of Shaker Road below the Brethren’s Workshop building at the Mt. Lebanon Shaker Museum was severely damaged, forcing the road to be closed and repaired.

Hoosick Falls To Look Into Consolidation With Hoosick

At last week’s Hoosick Falls Board meeting, Mayor Matt Monahan and the Trustees agreed to apply for a Local Government Efficiency-High Priority Planning grant through the Laberge Group. The grant will be for a “Village Dissolution Study with Alternatives to Dissolution.” On Monday evening the Hoosick Town Board supported the grant application. Deadline for the $48,000 grant was Wednesday, March 16.

New Lebanon Town Board Action – The Robert Mittnight Jr. Court Case

When the New Lebanon Town Board meeting was called to order on March 14 and the privilege of the floor turned over to the public Robert Mittnight Jr. addressed the Town Board in regard to his seemingly endless saga of zoning problems which began in 2004. Mittnight Jr. stated that his attorney advised him to come to the Board meeting to see if there was any possibility that reasonable reconciliation could be worked out between him and the Town of New Lebanon without the two parties incurring even more legal fees.
