US Senator Schumer Visits Brown’s Brewery

On Tuesday, February 22, U.S. Senator Charles E. Schumer visited Brown’s Brewery in Troy to announce his support of a bill to reduce by fifty percent the excise tax charged small breweries. For Brown’s Brewery owners and Hoosick residents Garry and Kelly Brown, such a tax reduction couldn’t come at a better time. After almost four years, they finally have all the federal and state permits they need to expand their beer brewing into the former Flowmatic Valve building on the Walloomsac River in North Hoosick.

Friday’s Snow Traps Tractor Trailer

The snowstorm last Friday didn’t bring a whole lot of snow by recent standards around here, but it did cause some of the most treacherous driving conditions of the season and in some places it took a long time for plows to respond. Grafton Planning Board Action – Can You Canoe?

At the Grafton Planning Board meeting on Monday, February 28, David Buckley asked the Board about the procedures for establishing a new business in Grafton. He said he would like to start an outfitting business that would sell and rent canoes and kayaks as well as selling other outdoor items. Sutton Wins Wrestling State Championship

Three local high school wrestlers competed at the New York State Wrestling Championships this past weekend with one of them ending his weekend standing on the top podium at the Times Union Center in Albany.  LaSalle Junior Connor Sutton of West Hoosick won the Division 1, 140 pound championship after entering the tournament as the number three seed. Brad Burns and Louis Weierbach of Hoosick Falls competed in the Division 2 tournament.

Stephentown Library Springs To Life

Congressman Chris Gibson To Hold Town Hall Meeting In Brunswick March 7

Congressman Chris Gibson (NY-20) announced today that he will join with New York State Assemblyman Steve McLaughlin to hold a Town Hall meeting in Brunswick on March 7.
The meeting will begin at 7 pm in the Brunswick Community Center, on Keyes Lane. Congressman Gibson and Assemblyman McLaughlin will make brief remarks and then take questions on federal and state issues.

Gearing Up For St. Paddy’s Day

The Town of Hoosick is gearing up for the 20th annual Hoosick Falls St. Patrick’s Parade and Irish Festival on March 12. This year the parade will feature marching bands including Capitol Brass Drum Corps, Excelsior Drum Corps, Fyfes and Drums of Olde Saratoga, Galloway Gaelic Pipes and Drums, the Hoosick Falls High School Band and the Taconic Pipe Band. The parade, which will begin at 1 pm, will also feature floats, antique cars and marchers.
