Lena M. (Cary) Barrett

Pittstown – At the age of 88, Lena M. (Cary) Barrett passed away peacefully in her home on Tuesday, March 28, 2017. She was the third of four children born to the late Lloyd F. and Hilda I. (Waite) Cary on December 30, 1928 in Parishville, NY, and resided there for nearly 35 years.
Lena was predeceased by her loving husband Richard ‘Dick’ E. Barrett (1926-2016), a young daughter Sheila A. Barrett (1948-1959), two sisters, Mae (Cary) McGregor (1925-2014), Lucille E. Cary (1927-1940), and a brother, Frank Cary (1939).
Lena was the beloved mother of six children. She is survived by Steven D. Barrett, Marshall L. Barrett, Sharon S. Archambeault, Mitzi L. Bezduch and Richard ‘Ricky’ E Barrett, Jr., eleven grandchildren, eighteen great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter, and several nieces, nephews, cousins, and longtime friends.
Lena lived in Cohoes, NY and later moved to Grafton, NY where she was the proud owner, manager and cook of Lena’s Kitchen for 27 years. Lena had a strong work ethic, sacrificed unselfishly, worked tirelessly, and was a very kind, generous person who loved caring for others. Lena will be missed tremendously by many.
Family and friends are invited to the wake on Friday, April 7, 2017 from 4:00 – 7:00 pm at Marra’s Funeral Home, 246 Remsen Street, Cohoes, NY 12047. There will be a funeral service on Saturday, April 8, 2017 at 11:00 am at the Old First Congregational Church, located at 60 Monument Avenue, Old Bennington, VT 05201. There will be an interment for Lena and Richard together at the Hillcrest Cemetery in Parishville, NY at a future date this year. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Community Hospice of Saratoga, 179 Lawrence Street, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866.
