Town Of Hoosick Holds Line On Taxes

The Hoosick Town Board put the finishing touches on the 2011 budget at its workshop meeting on Tuesday, October 26. A public hearing on that budget was scheduled for Thursday, October 28, at 7 pm. Basically, there will be no increases in the Town portion of the next tax bill. Councilman Bob Ryan noted facetiously that there was an increase. It is .007 percent.

Grafton Planning Board Action – October 2010

The Grafton Planning Board session on Monday, October 18, began at 6 pm with Public Hearings on an Ed Chilson/Clear Brook LLC four lot subdivision, a Jennifer Contessa two lot subdivision and a Site Plan Review of a meteorological tower to be installed by Gamesa Energy. The Contessa subdivision on Fox Hollow Road sailed through the public hearing, noting only that a small piece of the property, about half an acre that is in Petersburgh, cannot be subdivided.

HFCS BOE Approves Siege Club

The Hoosick Falls School Board monthly meeting began with a presentation from Science Teacher Anthony Malikowski about the HFCS team’s experience building a machine to compete in the recent  pumpkin chunkin’ contest at the Pumpkinpalooza Festival. Their machine, called Grape Shot, won the contest, and the students who participated were so fired up they wanted to do more of this kind of thing. Malikowski proposed a Siege Engineering Club and talked of organizing interscholastic competitions for siege machines. The Board approved the new Club later in the meeting.

Top Students Are Recognized For Academic Excellence

Gloria Martinez and Tiffany St. Hilaire, two students from Hoosick Falls, were recently honored at a statewide awards ceremony for gifted children held by The Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth (CTY) on October 9 at Siena University.

Cannoneers Are No Match For The Panthers’ Heavy Artillery

Coming off a week of rest following a Lake George forfeit, the HFCS Panther football team pulled out the big guns to shut out the Watervliet Cannoneers during last Friday’s Section II quarterfinal playoff match. The score was 42-0.

American Red Cross Goal Reached

The Town of Hoosick Republican Club sponsored its yearly blood drive on Columbus Day, October 11, at the North Hoosick Fire Department. The American Red Cross provides a goal for the event, and once again that goal was met, thanks to the many residents who gave blood and the team effort of the Republican party.  Many lives can be saved with the blood donated.
