Instrument Donations Needed For Berlin Elementary School

At Berlin Elementary School, over 90% of students in fourth and fifth grade are taking instrumental music lessons.  Many students have begun lessons on recorders, an inexpensive plastic flute that helps beginners develop fundamental music skills.  However, due to financial hardships, about 25 students cannot begin lessons on traditional band instruments such as flute, clarinet, saxophone, trumpet, French horn or trombone.

Geneva Furlano Earns AP Scholar Award

Geneva Furlano of the New Lebanon Junior/Senior High School Class of 2010 has earned the AP Scholar Award in recognition of her exceptional achievement on AP exams. Furlano had a score of 5 on the three AP exams she took last school year – Calculus AB, English Language and Composition and Physics C- Mechanics.

Stephentown Dems Endorse Jennings/Edwards

Stephentown Democrats gathered at the Fire Hall on Thursday, September 16, to choose candidates for the two local positions to be contested on November 2. A vacant seat on the Town Board and a Town Justice position will be up for election this year, along with a large number of state and national positions. A large voter turnout is anticipated.

Girls Varsity Beats Greenwich 5-1 Then Enjoys Fruit Bowl

The Panthers played a very impressive game on their home field under the lights against Greenwich on September 21. The girls’ scored throughout the game with Meaghan McKee starting early with the first goal and adding two more later on to get a hat trick. Mountaineer Girls Soccer Defeats Heatly In OT

In an overtime nail-biter, the Berlin Mountaineer girls soccer team defeated Heatly 2-1.
In the first half, each team’s defenses dominated. Berlin’s midfielders controlled the field, and the team itself seemed to out maneuver and outplay the Hornets. Yet the Mountaineers could not muster an uncontested shot on goal, as Heatly’s rigid defensive line thwarted a number of scoring threats. Berlin’s defense, anchored by Rachel Gordon and keeper Ashley Vincent, prevented the Hornets from generating any legitimate scoring threat. The first half ended in a scoreless tie.

Boys Soccer Ties Tough Tamarac Foe

There was some tough competition between the 2009 WASAREN League Soccer Champions Tamarac and the Hoosick Falls Panthers on Wednesday in Hoosick Falls. Both teams came into the game knowing it would be a tough one. It was soon obvious that it would also become a rough game, too.

Panther Golf Wrap Up

Last Thursday, September 16, at HFCC it was 3 to 2, Tamarac over Hoosick Falls. Medalists were Dan O’Brien of Tamarac with a 40 and Jordan Colvin and HF senior James Lynch and Freshman Kealan Hitt each with a 46.
HF 3    Cambridge 2
On Friday, September 17, at the Hoosick Falls Country Club HF defeated Cambridge 3-2. Medalists were HF junior Jordan Colvin 38 and Cambridge’s Nick Jettison with a 43.
