After our successful planting of one bed of gladioli in 2008, the local reaction to the beauty of the August flowers was so positive that we (Beautification of Berlin Committee) raised money from individuals and businesses in the Berlin community and surrounding areas to continue the project of lining the Route 22 corridor through Berlin with beds of gladioli… a symbolic representation of the original 19th and early 20th century displays of gladioli for which our town was renowned nationally. Man Critically Injured In Fall Near Dewey Bridge

At approximately 3:30 Sunday morning Hoosick Falls Police responded to a 911 call reporting that a man had fallen from the embankment adjoining the Dewey Bridge on Mechanic St. Wayne (Rocky) Weeden, 52, of Quarry St., apparently stepped over the guardrail, lost his footing and fell 24 feet to the rocks below, about eight feet from the railroad tracks. Stephentown Will Not Pay For Gravel Mined Illegally

Tony Cormier apparently is out of luck. The Stephentown Town Board back in April passed a resolution to pay him for the screened gravel that was taken from his property in North Stephentown four years ago. The Board told him he would probably receive a check the following month – $15,357.50 for 6,143 yards of gravel. That decision, however, was contingent on an agreement to be drafted by a lawyer and signed by Cormier that would absolve the Town of any legal liability should the NYS Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) take action against Cormier for illegal mining.

BCS Computer Network Deemed At Elevated Risk

The Berlin School Board received an assessment of the District’s computer network at its meeting Tuesday. Tom Buccino from Questar III and Jack Faber from Sirius Computer Solutions presented a report that covered the design and performance level of the network infrastructure and the adequacy of security systems. Hoosick Planning Board Okays Cell Tower Expansion

The Town of Hoosick Planning Board meeting took place Monday evening, July 20, in the Hoosick Falls Armory with chairman Jim Dunigan calling the meeting to order at 7:38 pm, leaving the public hearing on the expansion of services on a utility tower that was held one half hour before the regular meeting open for further comment.
