Panthers Roll Over Patriots, 40 – 6

October 1, 2015 By eastwickpress

by Steve Bradley

The evening began with a nice tribute to longtime Hoosick Falls Panther football supporter and all around good guy, Brian Hall. Brian loved his Panther football. If he nicked himself, he bled Panther blue. Friend and fellow 1980 graduate Nancy Fabiano spoke about her friend and balloons were set free in Brian’s memory. Brian passed away recently from natural causes. He was 54.

Then the game began. What a difference a week makes. [Read more…] about Panthers Roll Over Patriots, 40 – 6

Building a Meeting House

October 1, 2015 By eastwickpress

Wednesday, Feb 10, 1836: I tended to my chores and this afternoon I walked up to Benjamin Carpenters at the house formerly owned by the one hand Nathan Vary. I went there to a society meeting to see about building a meeting house. But a few attended and the meeting was adjourned till next week on Thursday. I called to the post office and I called to cousin Samuel Holcomb’s. I then returned home. I had a very fatiguing walk, for the snow is very deep and drifted, and the path is but very little trod. Independent Audit Of HFCS Finances Gets Highest Rating

 by Deb Alter

The first order of business at the September 17 HFCSD Board meeting was the Annual Independent Auditor’s Report. Alan Walther, the representative of the Bonadio Group presented the report to the Board. He said the process and the report were lengthier than usual because of some new criteria and requirements from the State. The report was excellent, giving the District an “Unmodified Opinion,” which is the highest rating possible and means that the District is in complete compliance in all areas of the audit with no deficiencies. Board Member John Helft asked Walther if it was unusual for a district to get a totally clean audit, and Walther replied that it is, and that HFCS is “head and shoulders above with the extra-curricular accounting.” [Read more…] about HFCS School Board Action

October 1, 2015 By eastwickpress

By Doug La Rocque

Supervisor Jaeger is accepting the budget proposals from his department heads. He said he will include raises requested by department heads in his tentative budget, which will be completed soon, but he was not optimistic that the Town could give raises this year. He said, “I don’t see how we can do it.”  Jaeger said the State’s budget cap this year limits the Town to an increase in spending of 0.7%.   [Read more…] about Berlin Budget Squeeze
