Village Of Hoosick Falls Board Meeting – Wood Brook Proposal On Hold

At the Hoosick Falls Village Board meeting on Tuesday, March 10, Bob Murphy of Barton & Loguidice DPC (B&L) addressed the Board regarding a grant application for a study of Woods Brook. Murphy and Brad Grant had made a similar request at the Hoosick Town Board meeting the evening before and the Town Board gave B&L the go-ahead to complete the grant application at a total cost of $7,000 with the Town and Village each paying half. The Village was certainly in favor of a study.

County Legislature Adjourns In Memory Of Richard Whalen

At its meeting on March 10 the Rensselaer County Legislature passed six resolutions memorializing citizens of the County who had recently died. One of them was Dick Whalen of Hoosick Falls in whose memory the meeting was adjourned.

Hoosick Planning Board

Rousseau Simple Subdivision

Brian Rousseau appeared before the Planning Board on behalf of his son Nathan who owns property on LeBarron Road. In September 2014 the Board approved a Family Subdivision with Brian and Mariea receiving 3.7 acres of Nathan’s property. The Board approved the Family Subdivision.

Girls Advance to State Semifinals With 52 – 35 Win

The Lady Panther basketball team took the step out of the state regionals into the Class B state semifinals last Saturday at Hudson Valley Community College. The Panther Ladies faced the Canton Golden Bears from Section X in a regional contest.

Berlin Teams Compete In Regional Science Competition

Fund Raiser For Julia Sweeney

The Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation at Hoosick Falls is sponsoring a delicious spaghetti dinner as a fundraiser for Julia Sweeney who lost her home and pets in a tragic fire this winter.  Music will be provided for our patrons, by the fabulous saxophone quartet, The Four of Us.

The dinner will take place on March 28 at The Eagles Club at 35 First Street in Hoosick Falls. Parking is available at the Town of Hoosick Rescue Squad next door to The Eagles. Please do not park in front of the bays.

Dinner will be served from 4:30 to 6 pm. Take-out meals will be available. The tickets are $7 in advance and $9 at the door. Advance tickets will be sold until March 26 in the lobby of The Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation at 21 Danforth Street. If you have questions, please contact Christa Caron at 686-4371 ext. 136.

Lillis Bunce Scholarship

Attention, high school seniors! Applications are being accepted for the 2015 Lillis Bunce Memorial Award.  This $200 award is offered by the Grafton Community Library Board of Trustees in recognition of the lifetime community service of the late Lillis Bunce of Grafton.  The purpose of this award is to encourage and reward the community service of our youth as demonstrated by the example Mrs. Bunce set throughout her life.

The Lillis Bunce Memorial Award is presented annually to a high school senior who has demonstrated outstanding commitment to the community by performing volunteer service in any of the following areas: library/literacy, gardening, environmental causes, or civic/church organizations–all areas for which Lillis demonstrated a personal interest and passion and gave generously of her time and talents.

Any Grafton resident who is currently a senior in high school is eligible to apply, including private and home-schooled students.  Applications may be obtained at the Library, on the Library’s website (www.graftoncommunitylibrary.org) or at the guidance offices of Berlin, Hoosick Falls or Brittonkill Central Schools.  Completed applications may be submitted in person at the library or by mail to Grafton Community Library, P.O. Box H, Grafton, NY, 12082.  The deadline for receiving applications is May 15.

Elmer Grogan Scholarship

Applications are being accepted for the scholarship award of $250 for the best essay on “What Freedom Means To Me” by a graduating senior from Brunswick Central School District or Berlin Central School District who is continuing on with his or her education.  The essay should not be less than 250 words or not more than 500 words.  The scholarship is being given by the Carner, Etman, Smith V.F.W. Post 6340 in memory of former member Elmer A. Grogan.

The deadline for applications is May 4.  Applications are available at the guidance counselor offices of both high schools and should be mailed to Carner, Etman, Smith V.F.W. Post 6340, PO Box 361, Grafton, NY  12082, attn:   Commander Richard Terpening
