As the demand for tech-savvy employees increases in the global market, the New Lebanon Central School District technology program gives students a competitive advantage in both college and careers. Many students learn computer programming beginning in third grade and all students have computer class beginning in Kindergarten.

Legend has it that the moon is made of cheese, the earth is flat, a sea serpent swims in Loch Ness and Big Foot prowls the woods of the northwest. We’ve all heard some Tall Tales and now the Berlin July 4th Parade Committee invites you to tell your Tall Tales with a float in the 2015 parade which kicks off at 11 am on Saturday, July 4. Tell everyone your tallest tale and maybe even win a cash prize for doing it. There is no entry fee. Floats will be judged in the following categories: Grand Prize, Theme Prize, Prettiest and Funniest. Hey did you hear the one about…….
Ribbons will be awarded for marching groups, cars, boats, antique equipment, decorated bicycles, costumed walkers and equestrian groups. Awards will also be presented to fire companies for best appearing and most in line. Participants should arrive by 9:30 am for line-up. Judging begins promptly at 10 am.
Entry forms will be mailed by the first of June to all past participants. Please notify us if your contact information has changed or if you do not receive a form and would like one sent to you. Hoosac School students helped clear out a storage room at the Louis Miller Museum in Hoosick Falls, sorting out the junk from the historically important on Tuesday, February 17. “These young people were a huge help,” said Mr. Phil Leonard, Town Historian and Museum Treasurer. The Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation at Hoosick Falls, is sponsoring a delicious spaghetti dinner as a fundraiser for a co-worker who lost her home and pets in a tragic fire this winter. Music will be provided for our patrons, by the fabulous saxophone quartet, The Four of Us. The dinner will take place on March 28 at The Eagles on 35 First. Street in Hoosick Falls. Dinner will be served 4:30 to 6 pm. Take-out meals will be available. The tickets are $7 in advance and $9 at the door. Advance tickets will be sold until March 26, in the lobby of The Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation at 21 Danforth Street in Hoosick Falls. The Petersburgh Public Library will present Ariel Dunn showing pictures and telling about her three week trip to Africa, her safari and her climb up Mount Kilimanjaro. She will be talking about how she planned the trip, chose the company, and what it was like on the mountain. She will also be describing her safari, the parks visited and animals seen and just a little about what it was like to be there, her impressions of how people live and how it is different. She can answer questions on her decision making and assist if someone is interested in going on such a trip. This program will be held on Wednesday, March 25 at 7 pm at the library. Everyone is invited to attend and see another part of the world through photography.
Story hour continues on Tuesday mornings at 11 am for preschoolers and their caregivers. March 10 will feature the wind and the month of March. March 17 is St. Patrick’s Day and that will be celebrated at story hour. March 24 will be “Animals Everywhere” and March 31 it will be “Build, Drive, Ride – Cars and other Machines”, There will be no story hour on April 7 due to school vacation.
The book discussion group will meet on Wednesday, March 11 at 7 pm to discuss the book The Signature of All Things by Elizabeth Gilbert. Copies of the book are available at the library and new members are welcome. If you have read the book please join us for the discussion.
The Ladies Auxiliary Ukulele Orchestra will perform at the New Lebanon Library on Friday, March 13, at 7 pm. This event is free and open to the public, although donations for the performers are appreciated.
Formed in 1994, The Ladies Auxiliary Ukulele Orchestra includes songwriter and educator Bernice Lewis, and educator Bernie McMahon, as well as surprise guests. They perform both originals and reinvented standard favorites. Close-cropped harmonies and unrestrained ukulele strumming produce a highly original sound. Their sets boast something from every era, ranging from Mozart to Radiohead, all of which benefit from fresh arrangements and a vocal delivery with tongues buried firmly in cheeks. Nothing is sacred in the Ladies’ quest for suitable material.

Berkshire musician Robin O’Herin will be performing at the New Lebanon Library on Friday, March 20, from 6:30 to 8 pm. This event is free and open to the public, although donations for the performer are appreciated.
A 2013 Boston Blues Challenge Finalist, Robin O’Herin is a touring blues and gospel musician, specializing in historically rich, often interactive concerts og blues, gospel, and traditional American music. Her performances are warm, affirming experiences which explore the music of the Delta and Piedmont regions of the South. Song selections may include Robert Johnson, Blind Willie Johnson and O’Herin’s own original blues and fingerstyle ballads.
