Petersburgh – Estelle Brunner, 93, passed away on Saturday, January 10, 2015, at her residence in Troy, NY. Born on Christmas Eve, December 24, 1921, in Port Chester, NY, Estelle was the only one of Michael and Mary Belluscio’s eleven children to be born in a hospital; the other children were born at home.

Annie Patire
Hoosick Falls – Annie “Marge” Patire, 89, passed away on Friday, January 9, 2015, at the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington, VT. She was the wife of the late Cruce “Rocky” Patire, who died on November 4, 2012.
Born on July 17, 1925, in Clifton, NJ, Annie was the daughter of the late John and Helen (Manista) Macaluso. She graduated from Clifton High School in Clifton. Marge and her husband Rocky and family owned and operated Patire Chevrolet-Oldsmobile-Buick Incorporated in Hoosick Falls, NY. Marge was a secretary at the business for many years. She enjoyed reading, needle work and spending time with her family. Marge was an avid Yankees fan, a member of the VFW Woman’s Auxiliary and a communicant of the Immaculate Conception Church.
Survivors include her sons, Edward and wife Barb Patire of Lanoka Harbor, NJ, and Bruce and wife Carol Patire of Hoosick Falls, her sisters, Lucy Billage and Dolores Vladyka, both of Clifton, and Claire Derco of Hasbrouck Heights, NJ. She is also survived by five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. Marge is pre-deceased by a sister, Josephine Patire, and brother, Joseph Macaluso.
A Mass of Christian Burial was offered on Tuesday, January 13, at 10:30 am from the Immaculate Conception Church on Main Street in Hoosick Falls. Burial followed the Mass at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Hoosick Falls.
Relatives and friends called at the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street, Hoosick Falls, NY, 12090, on Monday from 4 to 7 pm. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to either the Immaculate Conception Church, the Rensselaer County Community Hospice or the Town of Hoosick Rescue Squad through the funeral home.
Spencer McMartin Jr.
Hoosick Falls – Spencer McMartin Jr., 83, passed away peacefully after a long illness at Southwestern Vermont Medical Center in Bennington, VT, with his family at his side. He was the husband of his beloved Joan (Rancourt), who pre-deceased him in March of 2014.
Born October 10, 1931, in Hoosick Falls, NY, Spencer was the son of the late Julia (Corbett) McMartin and Spencer McMartin, Sr. He graduated from Walter A. Wood High School in Hoosick Falls where he developed a love for athletics and American history that lasted throughout his life. Spencer worked as an Office Manager for Swift & Company, moving his young family to various locations in New York including, Albany, Rochester and Buffalo. After relocating to the Hoosick Falls area, he worked for the Blue Flame Company. He enjoyed golfing, restoring furniture, renovating his vacation home and spending time with his family at his cabin at Babcock Lake where he enjoyed boating, fishing and lakeside barbecues. He was a huge fan of Notre Dame football and served as an armchair coach for many decades for the New York Giants.
Spencer was the patriarch of a large family. He is survived by his five children, Carol Holterman and her husband Peter of Clifton Park, NY, Colleen Doyle and her husband Daniel of Hoosick Falls, Thomas McMartin and his wife Ellen of Hoosick Falls, James McMartin and his wife Sylvie of Hooksett, NH, and Paul McMartin and his wife Kelly of Troy, NY. Additionally, he is survived by his grandchildren, David McMartin and his wife Emily, Brian McMartin, Kimberly Holterman, Jami McMartin, Kyle McMartin, Sara Senecal, Geoffrey Peron and Melissa Grignon and her husband Mike, as well as his great-grandchildren, Jillian and Colin McMartin, Ayla Senecal, Zachary Grignon and Stephen and Skyla Peron. He also left behind several nieces and nephews as well as his sister-in-law, Anne Fleming and her husband Ken. All will miss him and remember him as Notre Dame’s most loyal fan, a smooth dance partner at all family weddings, a champion puzzle builder and a willing taste tester for gourmet foods and desserts.
Calling hours for Spencer are Thursday, January 15, from 4 to 7 pm at the Mahar Funeral Home, 43 Main Street, Hoosick Falls, NY, 12090. Friends and family may meet at the funeral home on Friday, January 16, at 9:45 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:30 am from the Immaculate Conception Church on Main Street in Hoosick Falls.
Spencer’s family would like to thank Dr. Marcus Martinez, the staff at the Danforth Home, the Center for Nursing and Rehabilitation, the Southwestern Vermont Medical Center and the Town of Hoosick Rescue Squad for their compassionate care of Spencer.
Both Spencer and his wife Joan believed that no one should be hungry. His family requests that contributions in memory of Spencer be made to the HACA (Hoosick Area Church Association) through the funeral home, to help fund their Food Pantry.

The Life Of George Holcomb – George’s Mother Is Sick
Tuesday, April 1, 1834: Today I took my horse and wagon and carried my wife to cousin Samuel Holcomb’s on a visit, and from there I walked up to Simon Cranston’s to Town Meeting. Mr. Dike from Lebanon was there selling spoons. I voted the Jackson ticket, and it was elected. Rufus Rose for Supervisor, Elijah Graves, Town Clerk, and Leland Sheldon JP and all other officers down.
Wednesday: Today I drew out manure and towards night I sent our hired boy Charles Booge after Doc Graves for Mother Holcomb, but said doctor did not come tonight
Thursday: Said Doc Graves came and bled Mother. She was taken numb and helpless. Today I plowed sward on my Rodgers Farm. Tonight I walked over to Doc Graves with brother Wm. We looked over the accounts and said doctor credited copartnership account to each of us and we each pays half of all said doc’s demands.
Friday, April 4: I went to the Shakers with single wagon and carried two hides, 16 pounds at ten cts and one small hide at 38 cts, and veal at 3 and 4 cts per. the whole amount for hides and veal that the Shakers credit me at Munson office to be endorsed on my notes was four dol and 14 cts.
Monday, April 7: I plowed stalk ground. Today Eliza Wylie began to work for us for the season.
Tuesday: I rode to Simon Cranston’s, the town officers met there, I went as a school trustee and got the State’s money, which was eleven dollars and 90 cts and town’s money which was nine dollars and 29 cts.
Thursday: Today Charles Booge time out, I paid 50 cts to him.
Friday: Today Mr. Henry Ostrander came and agreed for my John Sackett house, the rent a month in haying and I am to have the control of the house what his family to consist of and if he drinks too much I am to have the liberty to clear him and his family and if he behaves and obeys he is to stay till the first day of April next. On yesterday when said Charles Booge time was out the 50 cts I paid him made up the twelve dol I agreed to pay his mother.
Saturday: I plowed in seed rye and collected in the school tax on my part of the district.
Sunday: On this evening I carried the money that I collected within my district together with my school tax and paid over to Joshua B. Maxon. The whole I paid over was 28 dol and 45 cts and my school bill was five dol and 58 cts, included in the before-mentioned sum.
Hoosick Cemetery Association Annual Meeting
The Annual Meeting of the Hoosick Cemetery Association will be held Saturday, January 17, at 1:30 pm at the Hoosick Baptist Church for the election of officers and such other business as may come before said meeting – Carol MacDonald, Secretary/Treasurer.
