October 3, 2014 By eastwickpress

by Steve Bradley

The Panthers had a different type of weekend starting at kick-off time on Friday evening. Everything was in place for Friday night lights at HFCS – Class C Hoosick Falls Panthers against Class B Broadalbin – Perth Patriots. The teams were ready, the snack bar was open, the crowd was pumped, and the weather was warm. The Alma Mater and the Star Spangled Banner were sung, and the crowd cheered. Let the game begin. Oh, wait, there are no referees. We can’t play a football game without referees.

The Berlin Central School Girls Soccer team traveled to New Lebanon on September 23 to play under the lights. As always it was a closely fought game and both teams played near their top levels. New Lebanon wanted to be the first team to score on Berlin this year. Berlin was defending a 6-0 record and had held all other teams scoreless against them. The play went back and forth for most of the first 20 minutes with a speedy NL offense getting stopped by an equally fast couple of Berlin defenders.

In April about 40 students from Berlin and Schoharie will be traveling to Spain. In order to help families we will be having Pizza Nights at the BCS MS/HS once a month. The dates are October 24, November 14, December 12, January 23, February 27 and March 13.
