Cribbage & Pitch Tournament At PVMCC

There will be a Cribbage and Pitch Tournament at the Petersburgh Veterans Memorial Community Center, 17 Main Street, Petersburgh on Friday, August 8, from 5 to 8 pm.

A covered dish supper will start at 5 pm followed by the card tournament and other card or board games.

All skill levels are welcome; lessons will be given. There is no admission fee. For more information, call Mary Lou at 518-658-0136.

Clogging Workshop At The Brunswick Library

Stephentown Community Tag Sale

The day was beautiful, the donated goods usable and clean and the crowd plentiful – all making for a very successful Community Tag Sale. There were ten booths in addition to anchor sites for the Stephentown Historical Society and the Federated Church on the field so generously donated by the Gardners.

The Historical Society would like to thank everyone who contributed to that success by working in preparation or at the sale, donating good, usable items or just coming by and purchasing something. It is certainly true that one man’s trash is another man’s treasure. A steady stream of customers passed through during the morning hours, having found something they really could use.

Petersburgh Library News

“Fizz, Boom, Read” the 2014 summer reading program at the Petersburgh Public Library draws to a close next week. Adults are reminded to enter all the books they have read this summer into the prize cans by Monday, August 11, at 6: pm. Children and youth also need to turn in their book lists by then. Young adults may also enter books they have read into prize cans.

The reading celebration will take place on Wednesday, August 13, between 4 and 6 pm when children and youth may stop by the Library to pick up their prizes and certificates and enjoy some cotton candy.

At 6 pm the drawings for the can prizes will take place and any winners present may take their prizes home. Those not present will receive a phone call letting them know what they have won.

Derek Montanye Promoted By Army National Guard

Derek Montanye from Petersburgh, serving with the Company C, 2-108th Infantry was promoted to the rank of Private First Class in recognition of his capability for additional responsibility and leadership.

Army National Guard promotions are based on overall performance, attitude, leadership ability and development potential.

Emily Baker Graduates From Hobart And William Smith Colleges

Emily Baker of Stephentown received a Bachelor’s Degree during the 2014 Commencement Ceremonies of Hobart and William Smith Colleges held on Sunday, May 18.

Baker, the daughter of Brian Baker and Nancy Petersen, majored in Psychology and Media & Society.  Baker studied abroad in London while at Hobart and William Smith.

Brad Falchuk, ’93, Emmy award winning writer, producer and director, delivered the 2014 Commencement Address.

Brandi Hoffman On Spring 2014 Dean’s List At SUNY Buffalo State

Brandi Hoffman of Stephentown was named to the spring 2014 Dean’s List at SUNY Buffalo State. Hoffman is majoring in psychology. To qualify for the Dean’s List, students must earn a GPA of 3.5 or higher and complete a minimum of 12 credit hours.

Matthew Morse Named To SUNY Geneseo’s Dean’s List For Spring 2014

Matthew Morse from Stephentown was named to the Dean’s List at The State University of New York at Geneseo for the spring semester 2014. To be on the list, a student must have achieved at least a 3.5 grade point average while taking a minimum of 12 credit hours.

Samantha Lefavour Named To Binghamton University Dean’s List

Samantha Lefavour of Stephentown received academic honors from the Harpur College of Arts and Sciences at Binghamton University by making the Dean’s List for the spring 2014 semester.

Binghamton University is one of the four university centers of the State University of New York. Known for the excellence of its students, faculty, staff and programs, Binghamton enrolls close to 15,000 students in programs leading to bachelor’s, master’s and doctoral degrees.

Charles Farrell Named To The Marist College Dean’s List For The Spring 2014 Semester

Charles Farrell of Grafton, a member of the Class of 2016, has been named to the Marist College Dean’s List for the Spring 2014 semester.

Marist is an independent comprehensive liberal arts college with an enrollment of 4,700 full time undergraduate students. Founded in 1929, the College offers 44 major fields of undergraduate study and 12 graduate degree programs. Marist is included in the Princeton Review’s 2013 guide to the top colleges and universities in the U.S., The Best 377 Colleges.

Marist is also ranked tenth in the northern United States in U.S. News & World Report’s 2013 “Best Colleges” guide and is listed by Kiplinger’s Personal Finance as one of the best values in private colleges and universities.
