Fire At Taconic

On Tuesday firefighters made quick work of a fire at Taconic in Petersburgh. The fire began at around 6 am in the exhaust ductwork and extended to materials that were stored on the floor at Building 1. The Petersburgh Fire Department and Ambulance, the Berlin Fire Department and the Grafton Fire Department were on the scene for about 90 minutes.

Berlin Town Board Action – Beneath The Surface

The Berlin Town Board meeting on Thursday, April 10, seemed uneventful on its surface, but on reflection several important, long-standing issues were discussed. Town Supervisor Rob Jaeger reported on the pre-workshop meeting on March 27 with the Petersburgh Town Board in which the Boards discussed Petersburgh’s contract for use of the Berlin transfer station. Grafton Town Board Action – Truck Rollover

At the Grafton Town Board meeting on Monday Highway Superintendent Herb Hasbrouck said there was an incident with one of the Town trucks about a month ago. A Town 2000 International single axle dump truck was forced off the road by a reckless driver in a car, and the truck rolled over onto its side.  The insurance company declared the truck unrepairable, so it must be replaced. The Town Board voted unanimously to seek bids for a replacement truck immediately.

HFCS Budget Keeps Tax Levy Under the Cap

At its meeting on Thursday, April 10, the Hoosick Falls School Board unanimously adopted a $22,487,085 budget for the next school year that maintains existing academic programs and co-curricular opportunities for students. The community will vote on the budget proposal on Tuesday, May 20.

Stephentown Fire Department Open House And Recruiting Day

A Music And Art Café Concert At PVMCC

The Music and Art Café will present Duo Eamon on Friday, April 25, at 7 pm at the Petersburgh Veterans Memorial Community Center. Duo Eamon is the Williamstown-based duet comprised of Cassandra Cleghorn on fiddle and Jeffrey Levine on guitar. Their newly released CD, Duo Eamon, will be available. Tickets cost $5.

Australian Benefit Breakfast

There will be an Australian All You Can Eat Benefit Breakfast for Alissa Babcock on Sunday, April 27, from 8 to 11 am at the Berlin Seventh Day Baptist Church. Say g’day and cheerio to Alissa Babcock while enjoying a full spread of pancakes, eggs, bacon, biscuits with sausage and gravy, home fries, coffee, juice and milk for just $10. Children five and under eat free.

The program tuition to visit Australia as a Student Ambassador is about $7,000, which includes meals, transportation, accommodations and educational activities. This event is intended to assist with a portion of the tuition.

On August 20, 2013, Petersburgh’s Alissa Babcock and her family received word that she was recommended and accepted by peers, instructors and community leaders to participate in the People to People Student Ambassador Program. Acceptance into the program was based on a demonstration of leadership and citizenship, a desire to learn about diverse cultures and a willingness to venture into the world in the name of peace, friendship and understanding.
