Barn Quilts At The Hoosac School

On Saturday evening, March 1, Hoosac School unveiled eight 4×4 foot Barn Quilts created by some of its students. Many people turned out to see the exhibit of colorful quilts that will be displayed in White Creek, Hoosick and Hoosick Falls in the spring. Upcoming Events At The Stephentown Library

• Friday, March 21, at 6:30 pm – Family Movie Night. Looking for something fun to do this weekend? Come to the Stephentown Memorial Library for a great family movie. This month we are showing a newly released animated film about two sisters who live in a castle surrounded by winter. The movie is rated PG, and the running time is 102 minutes. Free popcorn and drinks will be served.

• Wednesday, March 26, at 1:30 pm – Computers for Beginners Class. This class is for anyone just beginning to learn how to use a computer. We will briefly go over the physical computer parts, how to turn the computer on and off, the desktop, Start menu and how Windows® works. We will also spend time learning how to use the mouse. Depending on time and interest, the class may move forward to internet use and email. If you know someone who will benefit from this class, help spread the word and invite them to join.

• Tuesday, April 1, at 6:30 pm – Parenting Course begins. This six week class will meet on April 1, 8 and 22 and May 6, 13and 20. Participants should plan to attend all sessions in the class cycle. Led by Bruce Weiner, the class introduces the Systematic Training for Effective Parenting (STEP) method of parenting and will consist of the basics tenets of Parent Effectiveness Training, the positive character education focus on problem solving with children and other issues brought up by parents during the course. The only cost will be $15 for course workbooks, and this can be waived for those with financial need. All parents or other caregivers are invited to join us for this helpful class. Reservations are required, as space for this class is limited. Please call the Stephentown Memorial Library at 518-733-5750 to reserve a space.

Donate To The Bling For Books Sale

The New Lebanon Library is now accepting donations of jewelry for its second annual Bling For Books sale, a jewelry bazaar to benefit the Library.

“This event was a smashing success last year. There was a beautiful piece of jewelry for every taste and budget,” said Library Director Jeannie Bogino. “During this cold weather, it would be great if people could go through their jewelry boxes and make a tax deductible donation of bling they never wear.”

Drop off for donations at the Library during regular Library hours.

The Bling For Books will be held Saturday, May 17, from 10 am to 2 pm. Admission is free. A Preview Sale will held Friday, May 16, from 6 to 8 pm. Admission for this costs $5.

The Library is located at 550 State Route 20, 1/4 mile north of the yellow blinking light at the intersection of Routes 20 & 22. For more information, please call the Library at 518-794-8844.

Book Sale At The Grafton Library

The Grafton Community Library, located at 2455 NY Route 2, will be opening the doors at 8 am on Saturday, March 29, for a book sale. The sale will run until 1 pm in the basement. Stop by the Library to pick up some fresh reading material at bargain prices. Hardcovers are one dollar, and paperbacks are fifty cents. There are still free VHS tapes available. Rev Tor At New Lebanon Library

Berkshire musician Tor Krautter will perform at the New Lebanon Library on Thursday, March 27, at 6:30 pm. With the use of a looping unit, Rev Tor creates tasty yet infectious grooves and performs a large repertoire of well crafted original tunes and classic rock/folk covers.

Stephentown Memorial Library Scholarship

The Stephentown Memorial Library is offering one scholarship to a graduating senior who will enter a two or four year college in the Fall. Applicants for the Stephentown Memorial Library Scholarship must be a resident of Stephentown. Applications are available at the Library and at the Guidance Offices of local public and private schools attended by Stephentown students.

The scholarship fund results from gifts and bequests made to the Library specifically for scholarship purposes.

The application deadline is May 23.

Few Vote In Uncontested Village Election

Voting in the Hoosick Falls Village election was light this past Tuesday as the three Trustee candidates and Village Justice were well known and running unopposed. Forty-eight residents voted; 15 of those votes were by absentee ballot.

Village Justice Tom Restino received 44 votes. Trustee Jeremy Driscoll received 41 votes, Trustee Bob Downing, 39, and Trustee Ben Patten received 36.

David Grover, Linda Worster And Puggy Demary Perform At The New Lebanon Library

Local favorites David Grover, Linda Worster and Puggy Demary will be performing together at the New Lebanon Library on Sunday, March 23, at 2 pm. The group will be performing originals plus a mix of folk and rock from the 50s, 60s and 70s. From the Beatles to Crosby, Stills and Nash, from Simon and Garfunkel to Joni Mitchell, this group is always wonderful. The public is welcome, and the event is free, although donations for the performers are encouraged.

David Grover has earned countless awards including a Grammy nomination and Artist of the Year. He spent many years as Arlo Guthrie’s lead guitar and band leader. Grover and his Big Bear Band have performed at the White House, opened the Goodwill Games, appeared on The Today Show, performed with the Detroit Symphony for their Youth Series and played for the delegates of the United Nations.

Linda Worster has toured as a solo musician throughout New England, New York and New Jersey, performing in many coffeehouses, colleges, churches, healing centers, cafés and clubs. She has opened for many well known artists including Harry Chapin, David Bromberg, Bill Staines and Joan Baez.

Puggy Demary has been performing in the Berkshires for decades. He plays bass, guitar and piano and is a songwriter as well.

AARP Driving Course

The Hoosick Falls Senior Center is offering an AARP Driving Course on April 23 from 9 am to 3 pm at the Senior Center, 69 Church Street. The cost is $20 for AARP members, $25 for non-members.

Stephentown Volunteer Fire Department Texas Hold’em

The Stephentown Volunteer Fire Department will hold a Texas Hold’em Tournament on Saturday, March 29, in the Stephentown Fire Hall, located at 35 Grange Hall Road in Stephentown. The doors will open at 5:30 pm and close at 6 pm. Play begins at 6:15 sharp.

No advance registration is required. A donation of $35 per player will be accepted and give the player 6,000 in chip value. Players can make an additional $10 donation at the door for 2,000 extra in chip value. This tournament will pay one place for every 10 players with a minimum of four places and a maximum of 9 places.

A free buffet will be served at the first break, and refreshments will be available.
