Kiwanis Does A Threepeat In The Hoosipalooza Bed Race

A small crowd gathered at the Bed Race finish line at the corner of Main and Elm Streets to cheer on the four teams pushing their wheeled contraptions down Main Street. The weather on Saturday, March 1, was downright chilly, but sunny. The Bed Race was just one of the many events that day that were part of the HAYC3 sponsored Hoosipalooza III.

Petersburgh Mardi Gras Draws A Festive Crowd

On Saturday, March 1, the Petersburgh Veterans Memorial Community Center was transformed into a 1920s Speakeasy. Approximately 125 people of all ages had the opportunity to enjoy travelling back in time to the Roaring Twenties – an era of flappers, the prohibition and the birth of jazz. The event was held to celebrate Mardi Gras and raise funds for the Petersburgh Youth Program.

The Corkscrew Rail Trail Discussed In Stephentown

An informational meeting was held at the Stephentown Fire Hall on Thursday, February 27, regarding the possibility of developing a multi-use recreational trail through New Lebanon and Stephentown, potentially going all the way to Bennington. Because the trail as proposed would roughly follow the route of the Corkscrew Division of the old Rutland Railroad, it has been tentatively dubbed the Corkscrew Rail Trail. Eagle Bridge Man Is Search And Rescue Veteran

Congenial author and retired Colonel Edward Fleming never had a desire to fly helicopters or to write a book. Life doesn’t always work that way he explained as he talked about his military career at the Cheney Library on Thursday, February 20. Unfortunately bad weather kept some people from attending. However, those who did attend were enthralled by his easy going manner, his role in history and his many daring rescues.

HFCS Art Students Handcraft Ceramic Bowls For Fundraiser

Hoosick Falls High School art students have spent the past several weeks creating ceramic bowls, a focal point of the community’s first Empty Bowls fundraiser on Friday, March 14, from 6 to 8 pm at the Hoosick Armory, Youth Center and Community Coalition (HAYC3).

Irishman For The Day

The Hoosick Falls St. Patrick’s Committee is proud to announce that Phil Leonard of Hoosick Falls has been named “Irishman for a Day” for the 2014 parade on March 15.

Leonard has been nominated many times throughout the years for grand marshal, but he is not of Irish Descent. So, in the second time in the parade’s history, Leonard with be an “Irishman for a Day.”

It’s an honor to have Mr. Leonard as “Irishman for a Day” as he has had a lasting impact on our school and community.

Open Burning Banned Between March 15 and May 15

The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) implemented a new open burning regulation that took effect in October 2009. As part of that regulation no open burning is permitted between March 15 and May 15 each year. The regulation also specifies what can and cannot be burned. Panther Bowlers Finish Third In Sectionals; Many All Stars Named

The Hoosick Falls bowling team placed third out of twenty eight at the Section II, Class C, Bowling Tournament at Boulevard Lanes in Schenectady on Tuesday, February 11, with a six game total for five bowlers of 5,358 pins. Mechanicville finished first with a total of 5,468 followed by Middleburgh with a total of 5,456. Other schools from the Adirondack Bowling League who bowled well were Fort Edward, fourth with 5,233 pins, Hoosic Valley, fifth with 5,105 and Stillwater, tenth with 4,748.
